ZMF Verite Open

Until the next LTD is introduced....

Have you noticed any difference in sound between the two? Or is it too subtle to catch anything meaningful?
Not really. I thought the Pheasantwood sounded a tiny bit smoother and the Purpleheart a tiny bit punchier. But the differences were so small as to be inconsequential.

And I won't be tempted by any newer wood versions. African Blackwood is my favorite. I almost bought a Blackwood Auteur just for the beauty of the wood, even though I much prefer the sound of the Verite. I had been hoping that Zach would do another run of the Blackwood Verite. I never see any of the older ones show up in the "for sale" section. Now, I don't care anymore. I will have my precious!

Here's some of the pics - the rose-gold is indeed nice!

Remember if you wanted Ironwood - we will be removing them from the site tomorrow.

Seems ZMF customers (me included)have some sort of wood fetish... Hahahaha

imo the Blackwood will be the most sought after VO.... but staring at the Ironwood still giving me the feeling of how blessed I am on owning my prefect VO

Right after my Ironwood order! Those look so beautiful, Zach you did me dirty haha. I wish I could have psychic abilities so I would have known these were coming after the Ironwood, I would’ve waited!
If it helps, Ironwood and African Blackwood are both harder woods so SQ wise both will sound the same

Same boat here, with Verite Open to compliment my Sony Z1r I think i am good for a long time. I feel ZMF owners are like a family and heard nothing but great things about customer service.
It’s really difficult to listen to Z1R once you get used to ZMF house sound. I haven’t used my Z1R since getting ZMF

Been enjoying verite silver cable for the past couple days. So far my opinion this cable really suit verite character really well. Clean (but not sterile) sounding cable, spacious staging, with melodious vocal. Bass punch still lively, there's no such light bass or thin character here.

How does the VO fare in vocal presence compared to VC? Which one is more “in-your-face” and “airy” comparatively?

I'd say VO.

While VC produce rather intimate vocal, the bass punch also more apparent, make me easier to focus on vocal with VO.

VO definitely produce more Airiness in treble area.

Yes, I believe there are MANY of us who love wood, and adore ZMF for the aesthetic as much as for the sound.
I've been playing guitar for 30 years, and I've attuned my ear to tonal character over the decades by pinpointing the sound of the guitar, how it's mixed (also recorded music a lot), and how the woods affect tone, versus how pickups and/or string tension and/or the type of bridge influences the tone in comparison, etc... I have spent countless hours looking at guitar finishes and tops, trying to discern how the chambered mahogany Les Paul sounds different from my full-weight version, so on and so forth.
That love of guitar tones, types of wood, and the overall "package" of a finely built instrument goes directly into my love for ZMF headphones.

Oh yes... When my daughter auditioned her violin bows, same shape and size, different makers and woods, different sounds...

Amen my good friend! That love of guitars and instruments was what made me want to start building headphones with the same eccentricities!

Hope to see you someday in the post pandemic world as well. 😊🌍

Thanks go out to @PsilocybinCube for lending me a pair of Verite opens. It is early in my listening and this afternoon I will try them with some music recorded especially for listening and judging equipment. DAC at the moment is a Schiit Gungnir, headphone amp is one of my own design, a class A OTL using a rare Melz 6sn7 equivalent with a Tung Sol 5998.
