I did indeed sell them to @Bonddam, and I was very reluctant to do it. I sold them because I had my heart set on the new Blackwood VC, but now I’m not so sure. I may wait and see what all is released during ZMF November before I decide. I’m really digging my Ash Auteur at the moment, so all is well.

When I get a VC or VO, I'm going to have get at least 4 sets of pads, just to avoid the anxiety and FOMO because I might have ignorantly chosen 2 pad variants that I don't love as much as the others ... have you considered something like that as an optional bundle?
That’s what I did. I prefer more linear sound anyways so I picked up the leather BE2 and Verite pads. So know maybe play with hybrid or suede in my preferred pad. Also need to find a preferred pad with EQ and do the same thing.

I've realized the Be2 are a better secondary place to start beyond the stock pad due to it being more linear than the universe. But I would still recommend the universe pad for those who know they prefer a warmer tuning overall.
I've only really given the Auteur pads a good chance so far... you've made me pull the BE2's back out and give them a good try again :p
I will say it's far far easier to get a good fit on your head with the BE2. The Auteur I always feel like I've got them on a bit off center, which makes me think I'm forcing a bunch of imbalance. Sine sweeps up in the high frequencies tend to be far far more imbalanced as well, the positioning on your head is dang hard on the Auteur!

However that Auteur soundstage!!

I just wanted to share a pad option that took VC out of ZMF land. Think a non veiled VC. So I've been buying pads and wanted some Audeze that don't have the mounting foam.. So I ebayed around and I got some knock off one from a Chinese seller. They were meant for my Fostex T50rp and T60rp which both fully modded. Today was why not do I put them on and they kick ass.
Here's pics I put the eBay purchase if interested. I bought from them twice for same pads and both times they came. Sound is heaven bass. I can recommend for EDM as I can't vouch for other music. You do have to rub off the sticky stuff for headphones that don't have mounting grooves. Took 5-10 minutes did in my work van I just rubbed and rolled it off but I should have gotten goo gone because some vinyl paint came off. I'll either get rubber paint or try my paint pen to blacken the gray. It's a vacation from the house sound. Bass vibrates like my 1266 TC with same texture and I'm just using my heavily modded BottleHead Crack with CV181 Driver and Sylvania 6080. Here's inside of my crack the outside is ugly as USPS ran a fork lift reason they had it was because I sold it but not after USPS thought I should buy it back.

I think I’d prefer my hypothetical Blackwood VC to have an almost piano black look with black chassis and either black or stainless steel rods. I love the Blackwood VO’s with the stainless grills and rods, but I can’t decide if the VC would look better with the all blacked-out hardware since there is no grill to coordinate with. There is that tiny splash of stainless on the bottoms of the cups where the cables attach, so the stainless rods might look great as well. What hardware did you early adopters go for?

I'm not getting the blackwood, but I would probably go with any of the accent rods. SS and rose gold would be my picks for most contrast.

Based on what I saw with VO Blackwood, nothing beat the aged copper. The elegant and retro feel are so strong :L3000:

Which color is the rod on these?

The Purple VC set looks like copper and the Blue VC/Aeolus look like Rose Gold. My VO has Rose gold rods/grilles and my VC has the copper rods. Harder to tell the difference in photos but IRL the rose gold is shinier/ has a higher gloss look to it. Pic for reference:
