Are there a few headphones you feel do those things better? The VC is generally considered to be very strong in terms of detail, clarity, separation, etc. But if you're coming from stuff like Stax or some planars I could see how you'd find them veiled. This would be helpful for those considering the VC.
I'm almost certain its the pads.
I've used it with hugo 2, bifrost 2, and d90 for dacs and jot2, 789, Elise, wa22, d90 and hpa4 for amps
What kind of wood is your VC? Please, for science. :). I'm going to assume your VC is a high density wood.

Never mind, you purchased the monkeypod model second hand. That should mean it would pair well with a lot of lambskin pads and some hybrid pads. But you should also make sure the previous owner treated them well.

Compared to pad rolling, particular wood grain is unlikely to make a notable if even audible difference.

Hi Friends - first time on this thread. I am considering getting a VC. Have had auditions with the VO and VC, albeit brief. I am sure this is a much repeated question on this thread, but if you will kindly oblige me:
1. What differences do you perceive between the VO and the VC?
And...
2. Has anyone tried the VC with the Feliks Euforia (either the standard or the anniversary edition)?
Thanks much in advance!
For context, I have a Susvara, TC, Raal Sr1a, and the new HIFIMAN closed-back planar.
Best,
Sajid
Hey Sajid,

There have been a number of comparisons on this thread, but I know how much info is buried here & how hard it is to find sometimes (though the search feature does help, it only goes so far). I know @Monsterzero did a great video review which I can't find ATM, but @heliosphann and myself had some input about the two also...
Here's his:

And my take is here:

I hope that helps!

My thoughts exactly.

Wood density could definitely affect the sound... I mean there are a lot of reviewers on youtube and this forum that share an observable pattern. I can say for sure, Auteur Lambskin does not work for Olive wood. The Auteur hybrid accentuates sibilance and has harsher highs but overall is a good pairing (with the Olive model). There will be more olive owners soon, so we'll see I guess.

I would defer to @zach915m on that issue.

Out of curiosity, would you mind sharing what wood your vc is and what your preferred pad is?
Camphor Burl LTD and BE-2 pad. I went through most of the pads, they all had their merits, but the BE-2 just hit the sweet spot for me.

Honesty I've stood in front of a lot of people who will go back and forth between woods and see what they hear, and many times at a headphone show with the exact same two headphones. Some people hear the differences and some don't. Even though I can immediately hear the difference in attack and decay between two woods of differing densities, I also get to test every headphone. So that's why in the end I tell most future owners to get what they find aesthetically pleasing, because even though some people can hear the difference quickly, they usually enjoy both densities since the tuning is the same.

Ofcourse there's outliers and this is generalizing, but that's what my experience has been!

Me? No - solid lambskin. I'm curious to try hybrid at some point, but perfectly happy with leather BE-2.
Camphor Burl has a rating of 1800, which is between monkeypod and Olive. That might mean more choices in pad rolling (completely debatable). Is it accurate to say most monkeypod owners prefer the Auteur Lambskin or some type of solid lambskin? I could be wrong.
