I briefly owned both at the same time before I sold the Atticus. In my opinion, if you can afford both and you like EDM, rock, or hip-hop, then yes own/keep the Atticus. Because those are the genres where the Atty really shines, and in some occasions may even be preferred over the VC. But the VC is hands-down better overall on all music and is a much better "investment" in terms of value and usefulness. It may just come down to your mood. If you enjoy jazz, acoustic, pop, and live vocals more than heavily-processed or compressed music, then you will be much happier with the VC because it's a superstar in tonality, detail, and soundstage. It's amazing on the heavy stuff too, but it doesn't enhance the midbass the way the Atticus does. But don't mistake the VC as bass-light either because it actually plays lower frequencies than the Atticus with more authority. It's really hard to fault the VC on anything and the Atticus does really well where it shines best. From 60-120Hz the Atty will have your head knockin' like no other. The VC has the capability to rattle your teeth from 20-40Hz (amplification dependent), massage your temples from 200-800Hz, and tickle your nose hairs at 12k-16kHz all at the same time.

Sooo bottom line, yes there is a reason to own both headphones, and if you can (or just want to), then do it! But many (and most in this thread) will tell you to just save up twice as much and get the VC  .

Really good synopsis. I also found that the VC being larger than the Atticus, made it a more comfortable headphone. Although perhaps that was just a difference in pads and my big ears. The Atticus is by no means uncomfortable.

Finally after 14 weeks they have finally came in! These are absolutely phenomenal and everything I had hoped for them to be. Pretty happy with the sound of them already preferring universe pads over auteurs. Still got a lot of time for burn in but man was this worth it! Dark Stained Monkeypods with Copper Rods.

I upgraded my amp from the Rupert Neve RNHP to Pathos Aurium recently and I'm pleased with the purchase. It gives the VCs a bigger soundstage, more air and greater separation between instruments, whilst remaining smooth and very musical.

It's a tube hybrid amp and currently has the stock Electro Harmonix tubes installed but some NOS Amperex are winging their way across the pond from Brent Jessee. The world of tube rolling is pretty new to me and Brent was very helpful. Hopefully the 'new' (made in the 1960s) tubes will sound even better than the not very well regarded, new production, stock tubes.

I'd still like to know if the co-pilot pad for the VCs is intended to be used over the suspension strap or whether this should be removed?

Really dig the look of the amp I like that black and chrome combination and they look great together. I'm curious about the power conditioner I think I may be interested in one of those if this is available as a stand alone product. I picked up a pretty cheap Auto Voltage Regulator (linked to on one of the ZMF threads. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00009RA60/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) that really dropped the noise floor of my tube amp and cleaned up the power coming in so I was pretty excited to see these power conditioners as I need some help with that.

Thanks Whirlwind, I believe the synergy is gonna be magic.
I'm really anxious to hear it all together. However with my dac on back order, I just hope it's gonna be sooner rather than later. Haha

I really don't feel that I'm qualified to talk about a power conditioner , so I'll refer you to Mischa @A2029 who built it.
He has also run his listening tests and reports the amp is very transparent with an ultra black floor that's very addictive to listen to.
I can't wait to hear it for myself.

Hi Karnicopia, the Pure Power C2029 conditioner is available as a stand alone product (see product release post here: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/1101-audio-custom-crafted-headphone-amps.919425/post-15747426).

Just a demo unit, but VC is pretty fantastic. Probably wouldn’t go for Monkeypod on my set though
