@erics75 haha. I am not sure if you have ever literally felt your eyeballs freeze... but it is something else! That said, relativity is everything and I do hope the weather gets more comfortable for you guys soon:)

I think what @Squeaky Scav suggested seems reasonable! I will let @zach915m or @AnyDave give their opinion, but I think 10 min is not too long and giving the headphones a chance to acclimate a bit before being opened once inside seems like a good precaution.

Yeah- I will talk with the team and see if we can send out a quick "it's ready, but waiting" email. No problem.

Personally, I would give it more than 10 minutes. The outside of the package will acclimate the fastest, so it could trick you into thinking that it's thermally equalized.

The goal is to let it slowly come up to temp and not shock it. With guitars, I give it at least 4 hours if it's coming out of the cold and I have even waited overnight. It depends on how cautious I am feeling. Newer guitars aren't as bad with things like finish checking as there are stabilizers added to the finish, but I tend to err on the side of caution.

It's difficult to wait when it's a new piece of gear (whether it be guitars, headphones or whatever), but I know how disappointed I'd be if something happened to it, so I try to keep the perspective that I've waited this long, I can wait a little bit longer. Waiting is less of hassle than sending it back to get fixed.

I received shipping notice for B stock Atirum Open - my first ZMF headphone. I am deciding whether to have FedEx hold for pickup. What are the dimensions of the box the headphones are SHIPPED in?
Thank you for the replies here.

I contacted ZMF and they responded very promptly as follows:

We sent your package in a 12x12x7 weighing about 5 pounds.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that while your shipping label has been created, we will not pass off your package to FedEx today due to the sub zero temperatures here outside of Chicago. We have had experience where the cold weather can damage and even crack the headphones, so you may not see package movement over the next couple days. We also typically suggest that you do not redirect your package, as shipments can sometimes get lost and it is very unreliable. If you would like to switch destinations, let us know directly and we can have your package ship to the pickup location directly instead. Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns. Thank you!

I ordered the basic package - just the headphones and cable.

The situation with Walgreen's is confusing. I picked up a Lake People G108 - amp signature required - within the last 2 months at the West Portal location in San Francisco. But not all the locations the website initially shows as available for pickup actually ended up being available, Also Walgreen's is closing stores in San Francisco and the Bay Area but not the West Portal location. FedEx has an Office and Print Ship Center on Sloat Blvd which I think I will contact ZMF to redirect the package to. Walgreen's looks a little too uncertain for me. The package is fairly small so it should be pretty easy to handle.

Always use the Office & Print Centres for Fedex. The Fedex 'stations' inside Dollar General, Walgreens etc are often staffed by incompetents or malcontents ... 😳😒

That is true, I used Walgreens once before to hold and they just don't care about the packages. I figure the employees view it as an extra duty and do not want to be bothered with it.

That’s not good. So what does that mean for headphones that were shipped yesterday? The temperature seems to be -2F in IL. Does FedEx store them in a heated warehouse or something?

FedEx won’t do a hold for things from ZMF. They claim the shipper can redirect the shipment. But the FedEx website will accept your hold request and not actually do anything with it. FedEx told me it’s because it is signature required or because it is electronics (got different reasons at different times).
I have had every ZMF I have ever bought held at fedex location to pick up in person was able to change it on website easily… never have had a problem…my fed ex guy throws packages so it’s a must for me …lol

Exactly the same for me. I used Walgreens once for FedEx pick up and they ended up accepting the package and then picking it up again twice before I came to pick it up the same day. I have not had a problem having it held at an actual FedEx location.

That’s really surprising. It didn’t work for me and FedEx’s customer service gave me those other explanations - but maybe it’s actually because amps are heavier?

Didn't @BooUrns say a minute in the microwave on defrost would do the trick?

I KID! I KID! Don't microwave your ZMFs unless you're really hungry...
Nah I think she said put it over a roasting fire to help speed up acclimation time.

I think 8-ish hours should be fine (overnight), that's what the shipping email recommends for cold/dry-climate deliveries anyway.
