ZMF Aeolus Impressions thread

Does anyone know if the solid mesh or radial vented mesh was the og mesh for the Aeolus?
Solid mesh. It’s called bop mesh originally. In my opinion the Radial Vented Mesh is a must for Aeolus as it helps with perceived resolution but some owners prefer Aeolus really dark.

Once upon a time, with the old bopp mesh, there was a thick solid one for the Auteur and a thin solid one for the Aeolus. Only with the titan mesh did they get perforations for the Aeolus, with the Auteur getting a solid one.

I should have known I was remembering that wrong lol

@haasaaroni has it right I think. (But don't trust my memory obviously)
I obsessed over the Aeolus mesh for the 3 years I owned my pair, so I made it my business to remember 😅

Do you still own the Aeolus? Don’t see it in you signature anymore :)

I love my Aeolus (with bopp mesh). It’s my first ZMF headphone and remains my preference for that warm, smooth, lush and intimate mids-centric sound signature where there is no equal. Even Audeze series and Empy OG cannot beat it for what it does every well. This model is probably somewhat underrated now in the expanded ZMF range. For me, it still has its strong appeal despite the market trend of new headphones with tuning that skews towards neutrality, clarity and staging. I would consider Aeolus a rare gem for what it still offers today and as such would never sell my Aeolus. Just saying.

I sold my Aeolus a while ago. I don’t have time to listen to music too much anymore, and I found that I always reached for my Auteur Classics, so I let someone else enjoy my Aeolus.

But I’m with you, bopp mesh all the way! Those and the OG Aeolus lambskin pads were magic on my pendant.

Gotcha. So the bop mesh is NOT the solid mesh sold on ZMF currently?

No IIRC the Bopp mesh was prone to occasionally catching on the pads and or making crinkling sounds with head movement. Little uneven edges and whatnot, @zach915m didn't feel it was the best material to continue with. The current solid mesh is a different material.

Indeed. The Bop mesh is equivalent to the radial vented mesh, not the solid mesh sold on the site.

Has anyone else had issues with the Aeolus causing strain/discomfort in their lower neck? I can wear my Auteur Classics for 4+ hours with no issues, but the Aeolus makes me SORE. The pair I have is older and doesn't have the crescent headband, but I'm not sure if I should try to put a co-pilot or just switch out the headband to the crescent style. Hopefully someone else could chime in if they experienced this.

Switch out the headband. The pilot and co-pilot are great too, but the crescent improves comfort more for me, especially on heavier models.

I use a pilot pad on my Bokeh and had to use one on my Aeolus which I sold earlier this year. Even at the smallest head band setting most headphones are too big for my head.
