ZMF Aeolus Impressions thread

If I could find an African Blackwood with Copper Rod & Grill I'd take that as well. Aeolus requires the highest Janka Scale possible in my opinion so I'd need a super hard wood to be happy with the sound. Aeolus needs a lot more speed than some of the more resolving drivers so I only really like Aeolus with dense wood.
I own an Indian Almond wood Aeolus, supposedly the only one made. Indian almond is a very dense, hard wood.

An absolutely lovely headphone in looks and sound.

Yeah. The one of ones are what you want to look for.

I've owned four Aeolus in the past and vastly prefer the harder woods. This is especially evident in a warmer chain like an Echo MKII or something like that.

I'd love to see what it looks like, can you post a few pictures?

You lucky guy

Indian Almond is on the more of a medium density wood, but quite a bit more dense than the stock Sapele. What makes it unique is that while it’s relatively dense it’s also very light weight. Best of both worlds!

Still grateful to you to this day for letting those go, Aaron. Still love 'em! :)

• With Beyerdynamic A2 output impedance set to 100 ohms, gain set to +6dB .... the Aeolian magic spreads effortlessly .... ☺️:

Zach hasn't made any in the wood configuration that I'm looking for.

I'm waiting until the bespoke market opens at ZMF so I can have one custom built.

I'm looking for a Black & White Ebony. It's really high on the Janka Scale and looks amazing. I'd get Black rods and grills to avoid the screws being a different color to the grill. Black and White Ebony is extremely expensive so I highly doubt ZMF would use it on Aeolus.

Black and white ebony would be pretty fantastic!!

That’s why I searched for an African Blackwood with copper grills/rods. It’s definitely faster, more thud and snappier which I’m happy with. Really makes the Aeolus come alive I agree. It’s just a tighter sound profile I was originally after when i got the cocobolo and wasn’t totally satisfied.

Yup. Blackwood Aeolus are really hard to find. Zach hasn’t made many of them and most people who own one know what they have and won’t sell them.

Congrats on owning a sweet looking set.

Thanks I appreciate it. Best of luck finding one or having Zach make a custom ebony one for you. I’ll be holding onto my pair forever it’s become my true love lol. And I’ve been through some headphones I thought I’d never sell but these just tick all the boxes.

.... with a janka rating of 4050 (lb-force), African Blackwood may be a little difficult to craft headphone earcups with .... 🤷🏻‍♂️🥵

Zach has used African Blackwood on well over 100 units. He’s even had a full run of Blackwood VC’s and VO’s when they were the flagship. They aren’t that rare in the higher lineup but very rare with Aeolus.
