ZhiYin QT5 4BA + 1DD Impressions Thread

Even if there was a new one, I'd be hesitant unless it built up a solid following from others. I certainly wouldn't want to be the first to hear it after all this. To say this IEM has been a pain would be an understatement.

When EQ'ed it is still the best earphone I own though. That hasn't changed.

What pain? Mine is pure piece of mind.

Agreed ! Really enjoy mine too! And stand by everything Ive shared about them. Am going to get my neighbour over and a few other muso friends to have a listen on Wednsday and compare a few IEMs

People can unsubscribe or call it a deadhorse or whatever they like. Doesnt change how awsome these things are to me! :beerchug:

Your very well written review nailed what I hear to a T m8! If I could do it all again knowing what I know now Id just have got the QT5s and flagged the other 11 or so purchases..:beerchug:

bhazzard, can you please share your eq settings, I have been wanting to try a little adjusting based on those charts posted earlier, just not very experienced using EQ, normally I listen to everything flat.

Cheers

My very well tuned unit works great with no EQ. Anyways and since there seems to be different tuned QT5's (they even offer custom tuning?), you might give bazhard's a try.

Can you please get your very well tuned unit measured.  Nik can help you with that.  It would give us better data to work with overall.  So far every unit I've had measurement info on (including bhazards) seems to measure exactly the same - so unless Zhiyin have two alternate tunings, I suspect your "well tuned unit" may be just more of the same.  Real measurements would help.  Thanks.

Well, we all hear differently. I must say, I didn't like the included cable, got an updated balanced copper cable and to me they sounded better.

Over all I find my pair to be excellent and I have no problems with them.

We may hear differently - but it would be kind of nice to see if we're all talking about the same signature.  Can you please get yours measured?

It would really help.  Either there is a huge discrepancy as to what constitutes "a good signature", or there are huge variations in the tuning (which means QC issues).  I'd like to get to the bottom of it. And I'm kind of surprised that no-one is jumping to help get these measured.

I've reviewed a lot of IEMS - and seriously - these are the worst I've heard for a long time.

Well, Brooko, I have read your reviews in the past, and I'm usually in agreement with what you say. I can certainly see and understand where you are coming from and have no problem with your observations as you have made them.

Maybe it's the source? What source did you use again?
I was playing mine out of an Onyko DPX1, balanced output. I'll give them a listen with my AK120II and see if I notice anything odd.
Cable differences as well??
Or maybe I'm loosing my hearing....

Oh, almost forgot to mention,  I'm sending mine off to another head-fi member for comparison.

I've used them out of the following:

iPhone 5S, X3ii, X3ii + E17K, X7, X7 +AM3 (balanced), L3 (balanced), L5 Pro single ended.  When I use them balanced - I used the ALO Tinsel cable.

They have been amped, and out of very low impedance sources.  Cables won't make a jot worth of difference to this particular signature - I can throw 1/2 a dozen on and measure each time - they won't change.

I just want to get to the bottom of why in the beginning there have been 2-3 reviews (including Golden Ears) where these have been hyped and given basically 5 star "best evah!" ratings, and then more recently a few people have been commenting about how bad they are.  I've now had 4 graphs which show the same signature type (including bhazards pair).

To clarify - this isn't a witch hunt - I'm just searching for the truth.  People make buying decisions based on reviews.  I take it very seriously to be as objective and impartial as I can be.  Anyone can see from the measurements I posted that these are not well tuned IEMs.  So now I'm just looking to see why we are where we are.  If the two "good pairs" (yours and Paulus XII) can be measured and shown to be different, then that would go  along way toward explaining why this whole situation has eventuated.
