i think i've mentioned some of these artists before on here, but after recieving a new order of CDs from Ze Records i really think i need to make a thread about this label.....

After first hearing the artist Cristina (Cristina Monet) on track two of Ladytron's "Softcore Jukebox" compilation i was jaw droppingly impressed and went in search of her music..... unfortunately at the time it was all discontinued and only a few rare and expensive vinyl copies could be found...... but the record label Ze records has made a comeback recently and been re-releasing a few albums here and there.....

i have ordered every album Ze has released without having heard any of them and every single disc has been rock solid...... the occasionally so-so track here and there but for the most part you don't want to miss this.....

I recommend starting with "Mutant Disco Vol 1/2" and "Mutant Disco Vol 3: Garage Sale"

both discs contain sample tracks from a variety of artists originally on the Ze label.....

i personally am waiting avidly for them to release Don Armando's 2nd Ave Rhumba Band and Casino Music... maybe some Alan Vega too.....

the range of music varies, but it's totally fresh

think a

"punk meets disco meets 80s meets funk meets caribbean island music" crazyness

www.zerecords.com

the two Cristina albums just released, "Sleep it Off" and "Doll in the Box" are awesome, Undercover is as well...

if you get a James Chance disc get "Buy James Chance and the Contortions" or "James White and the Blacks - Off White" first

if you get a Was Not Was disc get the red one, "Out Come the Freaks" first

with Lizzy Mercier Decloux.... either album is good and totally different........ Press Color is very NoWave and Mambo Nassau is a NoWave meets Island Music.....

I'm not a Christmas person at all, but i ordered the Christmas album just to check it out and it is pretty good too.... the track Christmas Wrapping by the Waitresses (of "I know what boys like" fame) is great as well as James Chances "Christmas with Satan" and Was Not Was' "Christmas Time in the Motor City"

and while you are at it pick up Softcore Jukebox too... i don't know what label that is on, but it's awesome

if you take my advice and like this record label try www.tigersushi.com as well....... i just started ordering stuff from then and so far pretty solid.

PS hopefully they will release some John Cale soon as well (Cale first played with Lou Reed in The Primitives and then later The Velvet Underground)... Cale does a lot with the music on Cristina's albums and they are produced by Don Was
