The Last Dragon...

Now, when I say, "Who's da mastah?" you say, "Sho'nuff!"

Most of my faves have already been mentioned. But did anyone else like the ninja movies in the 80's starring Sho Kosugi? They didn't have the best storylines, but I thought Sho Kosugi was just so badass. In a lot of those movies he plays the villain, and I used to root for him to kill the good guys when I was a kid.

I'm particularly fond of martial arts “revenge” flicks, where the protagonist's family gets wiped out and it becomes his/ her life long mission to seek vengeance. Kudos/ major bonus points if the protagonist learns gongfu from a book and still needs to design & develop a special weapon to defeat the antagonist!

That said, my favourite martial arts flick is “Dao” aka “The Blade” (1995). Directed by Tsui Hark.

Favourite Shaw Brothers flicks include: Five Deadly Venoms, Kid with the Golden Arms and Master Killer (The 36th Chamber of Shaolin).

Then you should definitely check out Fist of Legend starring Jet Li. Till today, this has got to be one of my fav. Jet Li movie. You can read a long and good review here : http://www.kungfucinema.com/reviews/fistoflegend.htm

I really like the old school Shaw Bros stuff.

There's a 50 martial arts movie set you can pick up various places - I haven't finished watching it yet! Anyway, the one I remember best from that is a Japanese movie called "Street Fighter", about an assassin getting revenge on the people who cheated him. Has some funny/cool gore stuff.

A funny one you might have heard of is "Swordsman with an Umbrella", which I think might actually have been Korean. Part of the reason it's funny is the transfer: the (burned-in) subtitles don't match the dub, it's pan&scan so you miss important action at the sides of the screen, and it has the worst/best dub you ever heard! It sounds like they grabbed any native English speaker they could find off the street (there's a thick West Country (England) accent and a couple of awful New Zealand voices as well).
But the original film had its issues as well, notably a slow-mo flying-thru-the-air-while-fighting shot where they obviously couldn't afford to hang the actors in the air - or film it in slow-mo...

Gotta love Enter the Dragon. Bruce Lee is amazing, I love it when he fights that guy with the scar that killed his sister

How did the scar kill his sister?

Yes, it is a cult classic. Not quite the best but damn entertaining anyway.
