hi,
i just got my pk3's in the mail and the box, the little can to store the headphones appears very poorly made comparative to the pk1, is this always the case? i just assumed that the acessories would all be of the same quality. did i get a strange batch or are they all like that?

not that its really a deal breaker, but just something i noticed.

Are you talking about the plastic tub/thing they come in? It's the same as the PK1 "can." I have 4 of them (from my Yuin purchases). I don't use them for storing the PKs. Just got some PK3s myself and they can in the usual box and plastic "can" the other PKs came in. Not sure if that is something of concern, as long as the PK3s sound good.

i was curious about the yuins, were they really well designed, theres tons of research behind them ? or some chinese manufacturer made a great headphone by mistake ? like the FX33 and some of the OVC headphones ?

i dont mean any disrespect, but they do seem a bit cheap, and the form factor, i dont think anyone here can name another bud form factor headphone with the same sound quality (i might be wrong), but from what i read around, the K14p which is the top AKG bud and the MX500 which is the top sens bud dont come near to this,

Seem a bit cheap? They are rock solid built, and if you want, just check out the PK1/PK2 appreciation thread, and most of all, Kramer's review of the PK1s, regarding quality, both SQ and build. It's here:

There is nothing cheap about their build. Granted they won't win any design contests, but nothing about them is cheap per se. As for whether there was years of research or dumb luck behind their SQ, doesn't really matter to me. They sound fantastic, and are more comfortable than any IEMs I own for long-term use. I am speaking of the PK1s amped and the PK3s, amped or unamped.

So far, there are Head-Fiers who have posted thatt hey prefer the PK1s to their E500s, even MS1s. That is saying something. I rate them about even with my Grado SR80s, which I favor just slightly more. Anyway, they are built fine, and not flimsy or cheaply made.

ummm yeh i was talking about the can for storage

the pk1 can is like perfectly machined, precision perfect

but the pk3 can seems dogey, like its misaligned slightly, like just not up to standard somehow.

the earbuds on the other hand are wonderful :P
not a biggie, just its really obvious which can has the pk1's in it just by looking.

Aevum, hope this info. will make you curiousity goes away:

The designer/owner/boss of Yuin is himself a senior/well known member of the China audiophiles community. His quest to find/own the best earbud over the year made him realized that the earbuds' market is lacking in high quality earbud (while the rest of the headphones' world moves on). Therefore he started the company (that is Yuin) to pursue the best earbud we know today as PK1. Yuin isn't started by some 'guy' who trying to make money on low quality junk (while hitting the jackpot), but by a man on a quest, which is why you won't get anything flashy from Yuin - it is all about the SQ (and nothing else).

*BTW, IIRC what I read, the company is pretty small and the guy has done some really hard work to make it happens. Can't say the same about those guy who make bullet headphone through.

I found this really surprising. For such a well made, all-round excellent product, it's an effort by such a small team. For example, the email address on the instruction manual is YuinService@yeah.com. I'm really glad they're doing well, it's well deserved.

the simple look is growing on me, its simple no fuss, and has a retro appeal. and well no one will ever steal them :P

I have to say that I find the form factor of my PK2's pefect. Maybe they're not flashy or expensive looking, but they must have really researched the shape because they are really comfortable in my ears and they never fall out! I can't think of any other earbud I've tried (Sony or Sennheiser made) that manages to do that.

I have the PK1 but don't use it's cylindrical container. It is tough to insert and remove the earbud from it and it's shape takes up too much space. I'm using an Altoids candy tin to store both the PK1 and my UM1 (for noise isolation, sound quality is a nothing compared to the PK1). This setup works great as it is very simple to remove and store the earbuds. Hope this helps...
