Hmm.. Why is it that everyone who posted here seems to be into indie. Not that it's a bad thing, and your lists all look pretty good.. but that's obvious, since most of these albums made Pitchfork's top 50 anyway.

Pretty much. I think there is still a demand for good pop music and the corporations aren't putting out enough of it, so people have turned to this honest music that is only hidden a few mouse clicks away.

This is cool, because it's leveraging the avant-garde more....and there are amazing things coming out of the avant-garde right now.

Indie just had a big year. Ask on a non-audiophile forum what the top Albums of 05 were and I seriously doubt it will look anything like this forum's lists.

Oh, and just for heck's sake... Here's my list
wink.gif
(Which will soon be listened to with my new E4's!)
etysmile.gif
(No particular order though, I can't stand competition hehe.)

Sufjan Stevens - Illinois (Just awesome in every way.)
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (Dirty singing, awesome instruments & melodies... takes a while to get used to the singing, but you really get to a point where you actually like it.. I swear! Can't stop listening to that album lately...)
Wolf Parade - Apologies To The Queen Mary (Indie rock and roll at it's best.. Perfect music, songwriting, singing.. Love it all! And they're Canadian! Don't you just love that?)
Feist - Let It Die (Awesome voice, laidback music with that cool-retro feel to it.)
Feiry Furnaces - EP (I just love them.. what can I say?)
The Boy Least Likely To - The Best Party Ever (Cute & catchy.. but not too cute it becomes a sin to listen to.)
Animal Collective - Feels (Awesome raw, fresh, material from the experimental side of things.)
The Juan MacLean - Less Than Human (...I like electro, what can I say?)

(and yes, I have to admit it.. I'm a big pop sucker)

Death Cab For Cutie - Plans (Although it took me a while to learn to enjoy most of the songs on there... some are still just really bad.)

And then some other nice mentionning ... :

Stars - Set Yourself On Fire
The Magic Numbers - The Magic Numbers
Beck - Guero
Gorillaz - Demon Days
Iron & Wine - Woman King EP
Jack Johnson - In Between Dreams
Gentleman Reg - Darby & Joan

I guess that's it

And yes, I'm also a indie addict. Guess indie is just good music!

I have to say, I am taken aback by this. I loved his vocals immediately. The beginning of the first song, Clap Your Hands! just gave me a big grin and I never stopped smiling throughout the entire album. I guess I can see where his vocals aren't traditionally strong, but I guess I have just become accustomed to the "indie-style" vocals when listening to Modest Mouse and Wolf Parade prior to hearing CYHSY. This album is definitely on my top 3 of the year (with Illinoise and Jacksonville City Nights right there with it).

Yeah I guess it's just a "state of mind", the indie state of mind that is. It took me a while before understanding just "how" I could actually appreciate his vocals. Like, if you only listen to "normal" singing all the time and go straight to CYHSY, you'll most likely be like "Hey, why didn't anyone tell him his voice cracked all the time and that he's off key?" but I guess appreciation comes as you listen more and more and start understanding the music. (I'm especially thinking of "The Skin Of My Yellow Country Teeth", here. But again, I have to admit this has quickly become my favorite song. I mean, the music I loved since the first time I heard it, the guitar is just awesome and drums, and synth, etc. But the vocals took me a while, but now I actually sing along like a retard whenever I listen to that song!

)

Anywho.. :p I was wonderring, since you say you really like this album, the first time I listened to "Is This Love?" I couldn't stop thinking this song made me think of some other song... then I realized it could be a Radiohead song. But I listened to a lot of Radiohead songs and couldn't find which one. Am I crazy? (What makes me do the comparison is especially when he goes "Is this love? Must be love, must be love, etc..." in the chorus.)

By glancing over wht everyone else has picked out here its pretty clear I'm about more mainstream in my listening

Anyway... A few albums I really enjoyed this year:

Fall Out Boy - From Under Cork The Tree
Jack's Mannequin - Everything In Transit
Motion City Soundtrack - Commit This To Memory
Finch - Say Hello To Sunshine
