i am torn between meddle and dark side of the moon. really can't go wrong with either of them. it depends on my mood as to which is my favorite on any given day.

this is a tough one, and my rankings shift around a lot, but heres my go:
1) meddle (echoes is the best song ever)
2) dark side of the moon
3) wish you were here
4) the wall
5) division bell
6) obscured by clouds
7) animals
8) atom heart mother
9) a saucerful of secrets
10) a momentary lapse of reason

the rest I only occasionally listen to. 8 and up I listen to a whole bunch. what a great band

"The Dark Side of the Moon" is one my favorites, next "The Wall", then "The Division Bell" in third. "Wish You Were Here" is also great. Pink Floyd is just so darn good. It's just so hard to choose.

Wish You Were Here is, without quesition, one of my favorite albums of all time. "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" is a definitive rock anthem, and overwhelming proof that David Gilmore is one of the very greatest electric guitar players. Beyond that, the lyrics, in tribute to Syd, are a reminder of the Floyd's own long, strange trip.

DSOTM is such a cultural sacred cow that it's difficult to really assess it. One of the great albums of all time, obviously, in its own right. But so much cultural significance is attached to that record that I can't really listen to it as a pure musical statement. That's not the band's fault, and I hope that with time I will be able to listen again with fresh ears.

As for people throwing things, here's my own personal rhetorical hand grenade: any version of the band that doesn't include the four principles is not Pink Floyd. Roger Waters is not Pink Floyd. David Gilmore is not Pink Floyd. Together, they were Pink Floyd, in company with Richard Wright and Nick Mason. Syd Barret, artistic director emeritus, RIP.

Echoes is when Floyd really got their own distinctive sound and feel.

I pretty much agree with all of these picks, even though mine were different. I forgot Stay and Mudmen in my list, and Set the Controls.. Remember a Day is a very good one, too. Lucifer Sam is not in my top 20 but it might be #25 or so. Main Theme and Arnold Layne are right near the top of the rest, as well... Bike is such a great song I mentioned it in the list of top albums, but too much of a mind song for my top 20 . If you look at it in a different way, it may be their best song. The only one I really disagree here is the great gig in the sky. Always *really* hated that one . For me, it brings down the whole of DSoTM a notch or two.

Yes, definitely. In fact I prefer much prefer the 4 Ummagumma live tracks to their studio versions.

Can anyone recommend any particular recording/press/version of Meddle?

Wiki lists 4 versions:
1. 1971 original
2. 1984 MFSL remaster
3. 1989 Ultradisc remaster
4. 1992 Doug Sax remaster (from Shine On and later stand-alone issue)

# 2+3 are most likely too expensive for me.
If I buy it as a new cd, it will most likely be # 4 I guess?
Would I be better off finding a used copy of # 1 / non-remaster (like I did with The Wall and WYWH).
