I was listening to the radio on my ride to downtown Chicago last night and they devoted several hours to songs that had been covered by other artists. I was wondering what your favorites are? Here are a few of mine:

Tangled Up In Blue (Dylan) -- Indigo Girls on 1200 Curfews
Purple Avenue (Waits) -- Holly Cole on Temptation
Famous Blue Raincoat (Leonard Cohen) -- Jennifer Warnes on Famous Blue Raincoat
All Along The Watchtower (Dylan) -- Hendrix

The Pretenders covering Radioheads "Creep" - perfect punkette for a perfect cover

Fiona Apple's (really!) version of "Across the Universe" - so lazy and sexy i just wanna...

Nine Inch Nail doing Queen's "Get Down Make Love" - just a wicked nasty tune.

Devo's version of the Stone's "Satisfaction" - still weird, even today!

it's not as wierd as Nick Fiend's version of "satisfaction"

My favorite is:

The Swans covering Joy Division's "Love will tear us apart"

you really have to listen to it to appreciate it.

You Only Live Twice (Nancy Sinatra) --> Bjork did a cover which later got scrapped because she realizes she doesn't like to cover songs she already likes. It still circulates in MP3 land though.

Satisfaction (Rolling Stones) --> Bjork and PJ Harvey teamed up on this one.

Suzy Boggus w/ Chet Atkins covering In the Jail House Now (Jimmie Rogers?)

Statler Brothers covering I'll be your baby tonight (Dylan)

Weird Al polka versions of pop songs for laughs

The Fine Young Cannibals cover of Suspicious Minds (Elvis)

Robert Plant covering Sea of Love (???)

More later....(I may have to start a Worst Covers thread

Just remembered one:

Larry Carlton doing So What (Miles Davis)

I remembered it when I found a CD of my favorite Carlton tapes (one less tape I'll be listening to) for $2 at one of my favorite flea market shops. The CD is Last Nite.

This reminds me of another....

Michelle Pillar covering Emotions Wound Us So (Larry Carlton)
