I want an audiophile MP3 player that uses line out so I can add an amp. Anything non-Apple. Can be flash or HDD. I'm not sure there is even a flash player that exists with line out?

My Karma is dead. My Zen Micro doesn't have line out.

The Cowon X5 is sweet, but it requires a cradle which is annoying to me. Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Any kind of Iriver Hxxx player should work wonders for you. No need for anything extra for line out.

I was just checking out the H10 - no line out looks like? Guess I have to buy a used/legacy iRiver Hxxx for line out?

Ignore the H10. Go for H1xx/H3xx. My Cowon A2 also has a standard 3.5mm line out without the need for a cradle. I'd go for the Iriver though.

For line out all you need to do is to turn the volume up to full, turn the effects off and plug in a cable on the headphone out of the X5. The end result is pretty similar to what you'll get out of the Line Out socket of the H1xx or H3xx. Sonically, comparing the X5 headphone socket amped vs iRiver Line socket amped it's not worth switching. If you want to use the remote I guess the iRivers are better options.
