Your favorite/best DVD

For mainstream transfers: The Matrix.

For OOP stuff: Bug's Life, Toy Story 1/2, etc. (although Toy Stories have been re-released -- I have the first set)

For collector's editions -- Lord of the Rings trilogy

Just simply my favourite film to watch repeatedly: From Dusk Til Dawn

When I'm hungry my favourite DVD is "Eat Drink Man Woman" by Ang Lee.

Do you mean you have the Ultimate Toy Box? Those things are really valuable

I think so. (Don't have it handy, so can't verify.)

Agreed, those are both great thing to have in your collection (although I hate Alien 3)...

The X Files mythology DVD's (Abduction, Black Oil, Colonization and Super Soldiers) are good sets to have to.

so does anyone like the indiana jones box set? I'm thinking of getting it

Well, It's the only way to really get them on DVD, unless they have been released seperately recently, which with a quick search doesn't look like it. I did not own them on Laserdisk or anything, so was nice to finally own a copy. So, yes I guess.

Citizen Kane (special edition) - the transfer is clean, and the movie, well its friggin' Kane - very ahead of its time. The two commentary's are richly informative and veritable crash course in the history of film making.

More recent for the kiddies...

Sin City (Recut, Extended, Unrated) - First, Robert Rodriquez shoots in digital so his 'films' always look great on DVD. The special features are slick including the entire movie in green screen. Also, one can't forget Frank Miller's commentary as he explains illustration compared to film technique. Brilliant!

I never tire of watching these or some parts in them:

Diana Krall Live in Paris
LOTR's Extended editions
Fifth Element
The Matrix
Akira
Ghost in the Shell
Princess Mononoke
Spirited Away

As a movie Hero is the one I watched the most in theaters in my life (8 times). I like watching the DVD as well, but the video quality in the DVD is a shame. I have both the American and the Chinese versions, the Chinese is better than the American video-wise, but still not too great.

Not for entertainment but for calibrating your home theater rig, a highly recommended DVD is the AVIA Guide to Home Theater.
