Charles Lloyd New Quartet - Passin' Thru
(Passionate and infectious, one of my live jazz faves of the year)

Destroyer - Ken
(Clever and elegant indie pop gems)

Fabiano Do Nascimento - Tempo Dos Mestres
(Relaxed and atmospheric Brazilian folk-jazz)

Flotation Toy Warning - The Machine That Made Us
(Melodic and somewhat melancholic art-pop)

Jaimie Branch - Fly Or Die
(Hard to describe this quirky bag of jazz... but it's awesome, give it a try!)

Jeff Finlin - The Guru In The Girl
(Another excellent album by this undeservedly unknown singer / songwriter)

Julia Fordham - The Language of Love
(A mix of inspired and so-so jazz covers of pop songs. The voice and recording quality make it a winner for me)

Kalo - Live In Nyc
(Raw and energetic. Hands down my favorite blues / rock album of the year)

Laura Marling - Semper Femina
(The lady is perfection. A folk / pop masterpiece)

Luka Productions - Fasokan
(Trippy electronic afro-beat. My favorite world music album of the year)

Matthew Stevens - Preverbal
(Subtle jazz fusion with atmospheric Frisell-ian guitar play)

Mediabanda - Bombas En El Aire
(My recommendation to those who like complex / demanding fusion music. Amazing!)

Mica Levi - Jackie (OST)
(A late 2016 release, but I just had to include it here. Pretty much the antidote to Mediabanda...)

Mihaly Dresch Quartet with Chris Potter - Zea
(Eclectic mix of jazz and Hungarian folk. Another one of my live faves this year)

Morrissey - Low in High School
(Didn't expect to like this... but turned out, I was totally wrong)

The Unthanks - Diversions, Vol. 4 The Songs And Poems Of Molly Drake
(Nick Drake's roots uncovered, thanks to The Unthanks)

Wolfgang Haffner - Kind of Spain
(A remarkably beautiful and well-recorded jazz / folk album)

Yazz Ahmed - La Saboteuse
(Arabic, jazz, and a little bit of everything. One of the most creative albums I've heard all year)
