ok... i found a reposting of a line from the faq on the (apparently defunct) autechre fan site:

1.03 How is Autechre pronounced?

Autechre can be pronounced any way you feel is best: ah-tek-ray, ah-tek-er,
ah-te-ker, ah-tetsh-er are all different ways I've heard it pronounced.
According to an interview, Autechre themselves say awe-tek-er.

so there you have it... everyone's right.

I'm impressed your wife knows who they are.

It's spelled Autechre but it's pronounced 'Throat-wobbler mangrove'
