My question, both are exceptionnal composers but I'm wondering, which instruments do they play? My guess, Kajiura seems to play guitar and piano, Kanno probably piano also..

Its a long shot but I'm at work and 5 minute googles didn't turn much and thats all the time I have right now :P

Or anyone got any good pages with info? Thanks

Yoko i'm not so sure about but a quick picture can clear that up

It never ceases to amaze me how varied Yoko Kanno's music can be. From the deep dark background in Ghost in the Sheel, to the light fluffy jazz in Cowboy Bebop (performed with the SeatBelts).

They both play at least piano. Yoko Kanno plays the piano in her recordings. And yes, Yoko Kanno is female. Think Yoko Ono. Ok, scratch that thought. Also, bebop wasn't all light fluffy jazz. There was some bebop and cool, neither of which I would call light and fluffy. Ok, maybe I'd call cool fluffy

fluffy as in light. Jumpy happy jazz. Not deep and dark.

Either way it's all pure gold.

Yep, knew both were female.

Both are incredible. I'd say I prefer Yuki Kajiura's works overall, but the breadth of musical styles that Kanno's encompasses is just amazing. And the combination of her compositions with Maaya Sakamoto's vocals... WOW.

Now, time to go listen to the MADLAX OST again.

So Yuki is a Girl's name? (logic if she's a girl

)

So Yuki Otani (Haibane Renmei) is also female!

Thats pretty surprising, at first I thought they were all guys, then found about Yuki Kajiura, then later Yoko Kanno, and now Yuki Otani is a female also.

LOL

Well the 3 japanese (they're japanese right?) composers that I like are female. Woa, that feels.. Strange, but somehow right

To anyone who's a Kajiura fan -- she recently composed music for the game Xenosaga 2, specifically the battle and movie scenes. The first game in the series was written by Yasunori Mitsuda, who composed music for Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, and Chrono Cross among others.

And Kanno's recent Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex OSTs all rock. She's also supposed to be composing new music for the Cowboy Bebop video game (not positive how much of it would be new).

You think I'm a fan of these two? ^_^
