Sorry to add to the already vast amount of these threads but i'm in a bit of a pickle trying to decide on what IEM to buy.

I'm currently using a pair of Soundmagic PL20s (source - Cowon D2) and they're just not cutting it so i've ponied up and scraped together some paper to buy something worthwhile.

Because of what i usually listen to on my DAP, which is mostly fast sounding hardcore and metal i was hoping for something with grado-ish sound signature but i really wouldn't know where to start so i'd like a push in the right direction.

I've heard some good things about the RE0s and Klipsch S4s and to a lesser extent the RE2, Soundmagic PL-50s which are really modestly priced and the less i spend the better.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

If it's of any help here's a few examples of what i usually play on my DAP:

The most grado-ish IEM I've heard so far is the Grado GR8...go figure.

You didn't mention though what your cap is. The GR8 is $300.

i have $100 US to spend but would prefer not to spend all of it if possible so that rules out the GR8.

The RE0 is pretty fast and should be able to keep up, but it will need EQ'ing to fit your sound signature wants. Klipsch has much more bass, so if you're truly bass hungry it's not the RE0 you want. I personally think it has more than enough, especially with foam tips.

I think the iM-590 would do quite well there. If you're looking at the RE0 you may want to look at the Cyclone PR1 Pro as well if they ever appear on ebay again.

I'm a little concerned about the build quality on the cheaper models, my PL-20s seem to take a thrashing well but i used to own a set of MylarOnes that started falling apart weeks after i bought them.

I also just found these on eBay:

Ultimate Ears Super Fi 5 Noise Isolating Earphones BULK - eBay, Headphones Earbuds, iPod MP3 Accessories, Electronics. (end time 08-Feb-10 02:10:46 AEDST)

way cheap, but looks way suss, i'd be convinced that they're fakes but i thought there were no such thing as UE knockoffs?

Wow, excellent price! Used or new? I actually preferred the X5's over the more expensive X10's, they had better balance and the fit was just right. The X10's felt like they were probing into my brain.
