just thought i'd figure out how much all this cost me:

grado rs-1s and cable: $500
art di/o: $130
art di/o bolder cables and stancor power: $90
jmt meta42 + elpac power: $200
optimus 3400: $170
radioshack power for optimus: $15
radioshack fusion digital cable: $30

hmmm... that's 1135 bucks worth of stuff.

more expensive than drugs is right. but i guess cheaper than a mohr (barely).

sounds good to me so far. (art di/o still burning in) i've been running the optimus into the meta and the most immediate thing i noticed is that the bass has tightened way up. optimus bass was a little loose and flabby. soundstage has also been opened up. i'm using the 88.2 setting instead of external sync. to me the 88.2 just has a lot better punch.

i guess i'll post more later if i run into any other revelations.

eh, i changed my mind. external sync is cleaner. i think i'm going to pull the tube too. i read somewhere that this is ok and makes it run cooler because as of now it runs really, really hot. makes me kind of nervous though. you guys run your di/os tubeless?

goose: I dont know much about the optimus but if you spent 170 on a pcdp why not get a cd deck? Just curious. Nice setup, your rs-1 is hot! And I really dig them bolders.

cause i'm insane. and word on the street is that it's a pretty good transport. i just like the way my setup looks. 3 little pieces working together in symbiotic harmony.

A set-up like that is new to me and I have a question.

The di/o: I'm under the assumption that its converting the signal from digital to analog instead of letting the pcdp do the work. Therefore the cable from the pcdp to the di/o unit must be something special because I was under the assumption that the pcdp outputs analog.

Am I correct?

Please feel free to teach me.

Also, I agree with Goose that there is a nice look to having the 3 small boxes working so well together. It looks easy to move around as well.

the optimus actually does have a digital output. and the cable from the cd player to the dac (digital analog converter) is designed for carrying digital signals. (i have no idea the difference between a digital cable and a regular audiocable though) so zeroes and ones leave the cd player to be converted into an analog signal by the art di/o.

hope that helps.
