Hi all,

I've found some amps on eBay which would appear to be exactly what I'm looking for (tube based, multiple inputs), and would also allow me to add speakers at a later date if required.

The main thing that puts me off is the name - and wondering if I'd be better off getting something like a Little Dot Mk4 / Mk4 SE or Darkvoice 332, and just being stuck to using one device through it. I'd gladly go for the Little Dot or Darkvoice if the sound quality would be better than the Yaqin. Also, the SNR seems very low to me... it says 80db(A), my CD player claims 118db.

Can someone who has bought a Yaqin in the past let me know what their opinions are?

The model I'm looking at, the 6V6GTx4, is currently on eBay, auction number 310015641834 .

It seems too good to be true - maybe (in sound quality terms) it is.

I have one! Excellent amplifier...

I have an AR EB-101 feeding a Yaqin MS-12B phono preamp, Yamaha tuner and Sony CDP ending up with a nice pair of recently refurbed KLH 23s! Also serves as a verrrrry nice amp for 32 Ohm headphones.

You could buy a lot less and pay more money...

Another concern, of mine is that my current headphones are 62ohm AKG K701s, and I'd be looking at possibly getting some Sennheiser HD600 or HD650 down the line.

This amp only mentions 32ohm headphones, would it be any good with 62ohm or even 300ohm?

I don't know of any power amps that can properly power 300-600 Ohm headphones.

I have four Yaqin tube powered units (a pair of the MS-12 B pres, the 6V6 amp, and a MC5881-A integrated) and I wouldn't consider anything else for the same money...

Do you use your Yaqin units with headphones? If so, which ones?

The only 32 Ohm phones I have are Sony portables, and in the 6V6 amp they do sound surprisingly good for $60 phones.

My HD 600s are more or less permanently affixed to my DV336i, while my HD650s keep company with my DV332...

I tried feeding the low voltage output of the MS12-B to my 336i, but it sounded rough in some areas.

I AM considering buying some Grados for that 6V6 amp, tho'.

Doh!

So as I suspected, I'd be better off with a Little Dot or Darkvoice as a dedicated headphone amp, as it would drive headphones I could throw at it. If only they made a model which had multiple inputs, I'd be sold instantly!.

I looked at the Little Dot MkV, but wish it were tube based. It's probably a very competent solid state amp with 2 RCA inputs, but I REALLY want to go with a tube amp.

I don't think it will sell for 9 Euro! That is the opening bid only. Also, note that for free shipping you get only surface, which is 9 weeks delivery time. And GBP 25 insurance is still required!

I wouldnt buy from them on principle of the way they charge for postage, or of the figures they charge for postage, hence are able to offer the amps for 9 euros.

they should be transparent with regards cost of the amp and postage costs if they dont want to pay ebay fees then establish their own site, until then I will always think of them as cowboy opportunists regardless.

Can the 6V6 drive the HD650 cans?

Thanks!

Yaoin says 32 Ohms, +/-...

My HD 650s didn't care for the amp much, so I'd advise against it. If you have some KLH 5s or 23s, OTOH, JUMP on it! The 6V6 is a very capable tube amp for speakers.

Is there any good looking and good sounding tube amp that can drive both HD650 and speakers?

I'm thinking about something like this: YAQIN King 300B High-End Vacuum Integrated Tube Amp New on eBay, also Integrated Amplifiers, Amplifiers, Home Audio Hi Fi, Consumer Electronics (end time 15-Jan-09 12:09:52 GMT)

... but I don't know if it makes good sinergy with the HD650 or not...
