I'm a Yamaha fanboy so when I saw these lookers I was excited. Yamaha sometimes designs something that looks amazing, but most of the time their products look average, but these earphones look amazing to me.

Here is the product page: https://au.yamaha.com/en/products/audio_visual/headphones/tw-e7b/index.html

Ok I got these last night. Here are some of my impressions for the one person who wondered in here wandering who posted about motorbikes in a headphone forum. Yamaha really needs to step up their game with review units. Beyerdynamic also just launched a new TWS and there are videos and reviews all over the place.

Sound is pretty good. I would say they have a raspyness to them, sharp edge clarity and great bass when called for. Detail in vocals is pretty sharp. The sound is nothing like compared to the over ear model YH-E700A which is really bassy.

Noise cancellation is ok, better than the over ear model Yamaha produces (YH-E700A). I would imagine this is because these can't rely on the ear cups to block the noise.

Case is too big, it's not going into your jean pocket without a huge bulge and if you pull it out in front of your girlfriend she might think you are about to propose to her. The case looks nice though, but does not have wireless charging. Also the LEDs are really bright, like a night lamp, but I guess you won't miss the battery level.

Design of the phones is amazing. I love it. I think they copied final audios Japanese paper texture finish that works well. Unfortunately they are quite big and look like satellite dishes sticking out your ears. It looks like you are a spy. I wish Yamaha paid more attention how they look in your ears. I imagine the electronics added some depth to the original design so now it looks weird. Also let's see how they do with wind noise when I ride my bicycle.

Comfort is ok. I need more time with them though. One person mentioned the feeling that they are about to fall out (though they never do) and I get that feeling with one of the buds too. I need more time to asses the comfort.

Transparency mode introduces a bit of noise. I need more time to test it.

I read a lot of reviews (translated from Japanese) and most seem to praise the sound clarity and say it's great for acoustic music. I have been listening to that as well as my usual rotation of EDM varieties and enjoy them too. Reviews also seem to confirm the lightness of the noise cancellation.

I'll add more impressions soon.

Well, the right driver died and had to return to Amazon who wouldn't offer a replacement only a refund. I got them on special so I won't be able to re-buy them on the special price, so I got the WF-1000XM4 instead as a matter of curiosity. Price difference at full price makes the YAMAHA a lil cheaper than the Sonys, with the discount the YAMAHAS were about $90ish ($125AUD) cheaper.

I prefer the YAMAHAS over the SONYs:
– Feels like I already have plenty of head/ear phones with the Sony signature, warm and clean. The YAMAHAS have a really energetic signature with even more bass impact and an addictive almost electric treble.
– I was expecting SONYs noise cancelling to be way better, but it actually isnt. I think the YAMAHA is comparable, certainly with music playing. The SONYs give that suction feeling.
– I do prefer the Ambient mode on the SONYs as it seems to really amplify the background, I want this when I am cycling.
– I much better prefer the buttons on the YAMAHAs, 3 buttons can control almost everything I need (Volume, Sound Modes and track skipping/pausing). On the SONYs I have to do without some vital features, you can map every function, but not at the same time like the YAMAHAs.
– I hate SONYs foam tips, I much prefer silicon, so YAMAHAs are much more comfortable out of the box for me.
– SONYs look better in my hears, YAMAHAS look better in my hands.
– SONYs case is smaller, much smaller. But my Noble Falcon case is even smaller.

How do either compare to falcon? I liked the final audio version, but I couldn't get a good fit with them. I have the yamaha yh l700a, which are really good for BT. Curious if these are just as good. Otherwise, xm4 are the best tws I have found

I have now used the XM4s for a while and I am enjoying their sound quite a bit. The sound seems really detailed with good instrument separation and a holographic soundstage (ie in my minds eye I can place where the sounds are coming from).

I think both the YAMAHAs and the XM4s are a step or two above the Falcon. I was never really impressed with the Falcon even when I got them, thats why I had an itch to change. I also would love to try the Final ZE3000s one day.

The ze3000 is great for the price, has a cool vibe, and sound good...but not as good as the Sony

So head to head, purely sound, is the yamaha an upgrade or should I stick with my sonys?

It's a sort of different sound. The Yamahas are kinda of electric for a lack of a better word. They have an addictive quality of how they play music. They would be complementary to the Sony's I feel. The Sony's are kind of clean mainstream sound, but the Yamahas are more unique sounding. If I am pressed for an answer I would actually say I am not audiophile educated enough to say what is "better".

I hope we see more professional/influencer reviews of the Yamahas soon.

I found a review in Korean (dont know what she says)

You can see the white ones in her ear. You can see how far they stick out. I think the black ones might be the go as the white ones look too big.

agreed, between the 2, it's not really 'better' or 'worse', really depends on the kind of sound you're after.

have the xm4s, very good mainstream sound, strong bass, though the new memory foam buds hurt my ears even when I use the smallest ones, using another bud which reduces the effectiveness of the noise cancelling.

the E7Bs definitely have better clarity and smoothness, esp for vocals and instruments like piano and strings. compared to the xm4s, strings sound really silky smooth. the bass is decent and not overwhelming, more punch less wobble. I dare say the soundstage for the e7 is wider too, with better separation.

I find myself preferring different earbuds depending on the music I'm listening to. Like certain movie soundtracks I'd prefer the xm4s as details become muddled in the e7, and vice versa for other songs.

If you already have an xm4 for example, I can't really recommend the e7b as an 'upgrade'. as usual, ymmv, try it at your local store when you can.

Yea, big, looks like a tube sticking out front the front, but overall really nice design I have to say, actually looks like a ear accessory from the side

finally an English review

https://www.gsmarena.com/yamaha_twe7b_true_wireless_anc_earbuds_review-news-56097.php

ill give you their conclusion:

Even at the currently discounted price of $250, the Yamaha TW-E7B are a tough sell. They have good audio quality, good comfort, decent battery life, and good design. However, the ANC performance leaves a lot to be desired, which in this price range is a cardinal sin, especially considering the pedigree of the competition. Besides, most of them also have good audio quality, so Yamaha isn't breaking any new ground here.

I agree. I got them but will be returning them. The xm4 sounds better, fits better, and has better anc.

I think a lot of the reviewers miss the point when they review as I bet a lot of these sound the same on apple, due to crappy codecs and very different depending which other source you use. And what codecs is set/forced, and if any EQ. More so than IEM’s.

I use android. The yamahas are just okay. Xm4 is just better. Is what it is. Everyone wants to jump to the next thing and ride the hype train. These are another mediocre pair in a sea of mediocre pairs, which is a bummer because their over ears are great. I don't care for the Sony over ear xm5, but their tws are unbeatable right now.
