I've already discussed the idea of seeing if YoTank might build a custom case for my amp. And then I got to thinking about the size of the new case compared to the current hammond case it is in. The YoTank case would be much bigger, which doesn't bother me, but would have alot of open space inside. So my question is, does anyone know if the XP amp is capable of having two rechargable 9V batteries in series? I've seen some CMoys and I believe even some PINTs that has dual 9V batteries in them. Also does anyone know what the maximum mah battery you can use with the XP amp and which model would be best. The current battery in my amp only lasts a few hours now. And while the AD8397 opamp eats batteries for breakfast, it shouldn't go through a full charge that fast.

I think you can use any mah, the higher the longer it will last. But for rechargeable 9v (last time i checked) it doesnt come close to regular non-rechargeable 9v. If this is correct then you would want to wire the batteries in parrallel, keeping the voltage same but rasing the mah.

Try new batteries? They may have crystal formation in the cells, wont hold full charge and discharge faster then normal. Nihm are better but still susceptible has a set lifecycle. Nicd will last long if you deep cycle them once a month. Lion only last 4 -5 years even if you dont use it.

I am curious as to the circuit differences, if any; between the AD and LM versions.
Want make it socketable.

there is no difference in boards for the LM and AD versions. Infact I spoke with [AK]Zip about this just last week. It is really easy to change out the opamps which cost less than $5 each.

I haven't tried it myself. I have a dual LM XP amp that I recently sold because I had bought a 2nd XP amp that had the AD/LM config. But I was told that you could change out the opamps. No they are socketed, but it can be done.

Enjoy your XP. Personally, I think it's one of the best portable amps out there. Especially for the money. I owned a Tomahawk which was 2.5x the price of my XP and the XP sounded much better. And that was the dual LM version.

She is a sweet little amp but she was getting no attention from me but looks like she will get plenty from you enjoy.

The AD8397 on Left/Right draws something like 25 mA of current, add 10-15mA for the LM6171 for ground, plus other components, you're looking at a total current draw of around 40mA - your average cheap battery is barely 150mA so that's less than 4 hours of playtime in an amp like that.

Besides that, I absolutely love the XP amp and in general all amps with that design

You can easily change the battery configuration to a pair of 9Vs, just add another 9V clip and re-solder the lead. Just make sure to run them in series.

Be warned though, although I haven't tested with the XP amp, I did have some trouble with running a pair of AD8397s at 18V on my PINT, it was a little unstable, but I'm guessing that's just the ground channel. It should be safe, in this design, give it a try

Since I bought it, I would like to know where the difference lies. I am just curious.

The dual LM config has a warmer sound. The AD/LM config is more punchy and in your face kind of sound.

I cant help thinking if the LM is more suited to my taste.
Most of the music I listen to are downtemp, laid back music.
But I also like the aggressive sound of the AD esp. the bass.
Sometimes the AD is alittle over the top and want more space and air.
I know im going to miss the AD if I switch.
