Xin Supermacro battery question

I just bought a used Supermacro amp. I'm confused about the batteries in the Supermacro. Does it take AAA's? Do you just slide them into the amp? It doesn't seem like there are any "contacts" for the ends of the batteries on the inside of the amp like there are on the cover that screws on and off.

I recommend putting the amp on the side so you will effectively stack the batteries on top of each other. They will perfectly slide in. If you put them in with the amp laying down as shown in the picture you can run into fitting problems.
