A few days ago, many sites started saying that the X5 60GB was not going to happen. iAudio has declarified its statement:

Quote:

"Dear iAUDIO customers,

I appreciate your warm support for iAUDIO.

The iAUDIO X5 60GB version became a hot issue at many sites recently. My information about X5 60GB was not our official announcement nor correct. I was wrong. Please do not be disappointed with that.

Today we decided to release iAUDIO X5 60GB version in near future.

Sorry for the confusions that I've made by my e-mail. Once a specific schedule is ready, we will inform you of it.

Thanks and regards,
Kevin Kang"

I would totally buy a 60GB X5L even after I've bought a 30GB X5. I really like this player and I wouldn't hesitate in purchasing one with longer batt life and more storage.

they won't make a 60GB X5L, only a X5 model from what I read about the player, something about it being too thick. but a 60GB DAP with 30+ hours of battery life would be great

why would a given device be thicker if they are *only* swapping in/oe including larger capacity hard discs of the same form factor? the 60GB 1.8" hdd's have been out for quite some time. im somewhat suprised that there isnt an 80gb 1.8" factor disc on the market in droves yet.

my 80gb nomad zen is roughly 2.5 times as thick as the 30gb version. i hope i can fit my 100gb archos av320 in my "european mens cairy-all" after modification...

yeah, the 60GB HDD would make them alittle thicker, but not that much so they are making a 60GB X5, but with the X5L the battery is also thicker than in the stadard X5's so they aren't

This is the closest thing to what I am looking for.

But it'll probably cost a small fortune, considering that I can find the 60GB iPod Photo for less than the 30GB X5L.. here in the UK at least.

i can understand why they'd need a bigger case for a 60GB X5L (cos of the double-platter), but could they not use those new perpendicular drives that are coming out that have 60GB on a single platter to fit the drive and the extended battery into the existing X5L case?

Perpendicular drives are still rare hence more costly at the moment.
Considering the cost of the 30GB X5L, I would think that the added cost would make the 60GB X5L uncompetitive.

Well Segate and Toshiba started making perpendicular technology drives, so soon we should see 40GB daps same thickness as 20GB, and 80GB drives, same thickness as 60GB.

Infact, toshiba has already put them into production, in 40GB drives, you can buy the H41, which is as thick as an H20. Soon an H81 will be out same thickness as H60.
Now if toshiba could somehow make software that isnt worse than Sonicstage, and battery life that lasts actually longer than 4-5 hours.
