Well after a long while deciding whether to get one or not, I decided to just buy the X-Fi XtremeGamer. But I forgot how my friend set his up and he's disappeared since February with his girlfriend. So for all you gamers, how do you set it up, Game mode-->2.1 or Headphone?-->Anything else?

For gaming when I want nice immersive, 3D sound like having surround sound, I set it to Game Mode and Headphones. Then I usually set the game I'm playing to the most channels it supports (like 7.1 or 5.1). I usually don't use crystalizer or EAC effects.

Do you think bumping up the mid and high range, which is the range for footsteps, nades, and such, right?, would be that beneficial?

I've never set an EQ for gaming, personally. I like it flat too, but game mode and surround settings should be fine if you're only gaming.

I connect my X-fi to my headphone amp to my headphones.
I also only use game mode with EAX enabled games. I find that Audio Creation mode sounds much better in games such as counter-strike.
