Does the connectivity of the Optical out from the X-fi through the flexi-jack through the I/O Module affect sound quality, data, or some kind of electrical signal in any significant way? Oppose to say straight from the optical out of a AV710 or a EMU 0404.

Its not optical, its coaxial. I use it daily and it works well enough for me.
