I have been beating myself up searching for a good soundcard.

I am thinking of the X-Fi Elite Pro, but I lack the proper funding, as I would rather buy a third set of cans.

This brings me to the X-Fi Extreme Music.

Not quite sure...

EDIT:
Well, true to the Head-fi virus, I just ordered the Extreme Music.
I think this place puts me into a money-spending trance.
I just recently ordered a maxed Portaphile, too... *sigh*

No F---ing S---! I can't believe how much I spend on headphones and headphone related equipment. I alway fool myself as children do with the old "well this last set of headphones or this last tweek is it, then I'll be done upgrading". WHAT A FOOL I AM!

I have the Elite Pro, and it kick my Audigy's a**. :P Save up if you need to as Elite Pro has better DACs compared to the rest. But one thing, the console is damn big but looks cool.

Well, I am out 5.25" bay. Unless I sacrifice one, it is down to either the Elite Pro or the Extreme Music (and a DAC next year). And I don't see much point in getting an in-between card since I read that only the Elite Pro has a good built in DAC.
In the UK at least, the Elite Pro is about 2.5x more expensive than the Extreme Music. Sounds like a lot, but maybe not THAT much when you consider the extras you get with it. So I am not sure. An external DAC is a considerably more expensive option. The MicroDAC ALONE cost almost as much as the Elite Pro. And I don't know if the cheaper external DAC compares to the Elite Pro.

Edit: Actually, once I add the postage and cables, the MicroDAC will end up costing as much as the Elite Pro. When I look at it this way, I think I've just answered my question. I am going Elite Pro.

The only reason I didn't get the Elite Pro, is because my computer isnt my main audio source. Computer is a small part of it, in fact.

Still, I cant wait until It gets here.

Errgg.
My portaphile wont get here until Jan 10th.

I have the X-Fi in my new dual core box and man does it beat the hell out of my Audigy 2 card. Worth the upgrade.

Any comparisons with the EMU 0404 and/or 1212?

how does the X-Fi compare against the Emu 0404? Is it worth the extra $? I've been debating with myself to just add an Emu 0404 with my SBA 2ZS and run them together, or just get an X-Fi.

thaddy: AFAIK the high-end x-fis have more or less the same DAC and opamps as the 1212, so they should be about the same - no point spending the extra over the 1212 for stereo music, but worth it if you want gaming stuff.
