Hi

Can anybody confirm if the X-cans V2 suffer a slight leak on the Right channel? Since using my home made transformer I have become aware of a slight swirling noise on the right channel when the musical passages are soft.

In fact, the PSU seems to bring every little detail out.. I was listening to roger waters "pro's and con's" last night and at one stage thought a lorry had driven into the side of my house!

I could do without the right channel interference though.. is there anyway to get rid of this?

Thanks

Pinkie

The first step would be to switch the tubes (move the one in front to the rear, and vice versa). If the noise changes sides, then you've got a noisy tube and need to replace it.

Thanks for your reply Hirsch.. on further investigation I find that this a common trait with the philips valves.. replacing them with better valves solves the problem according to MF.

When I tested the tubes that came in my X-Can v2, one of the original JAN Philips tubes didn't pass

The begining of track 4 (The heroes return)? or... 'Get your filthy hands off my desert'??... the explosion on track 10 is great

what about the "wood chopping" on amused to death .. followed by the sleigh........... woweee!!

Just listened to the final cut and yep..... agree, although it sounds more like I'm being hit in the head with a large block of MDF (sounds like 12mm but it could well be 18mm)

Maybe I need to dip my transformer in some warm varnish and oven bake it on a low heat before I can experience soft pine?

On a serious note, the transformer is inclined to "buzz" under load (not through the phones) so I am contemplating either encasing it in resin or soaking it in some warm varnish and then drying it on a low heat to secure the transformer windings.

Either that or I'll send it back and demand they wind me another one that is a bit tighter and then soak it in varnish

Another little problem has cropped up with the X-can when I listen late at night.... RFI. Last night it tuned itself into radio Moscow. Not ideal but it certainly did add a new dimension to Ummagumma.

I have since grounded it to the central heating system and hope this will get rid of the RFI but knowing British Gas It'll probably tune it into radio one
