Who here has actually purchased an item because of a WTB post? I mean:

1. you posted want to buy item x.

2. you were contacted by someone who was not already selling or checking interest to sell item x, but had one in their possession.

3. you came to an agreement and purchased the item.

Oh, and what was it that you purchased.

Yup, it worked when I wanted to buy a pair of SA5000s. It also almost worked when I wanted to buy a Presonus Central Station (Everything was right, but I suddenly lost interest and decided to go a different way). I'm currently trying to "WTB" a Stello DA100. The system works, but it has only worked 33% of the time.

Yes, as long as the wanted item is a commonly sold item on the board (and someone is selling theirs). I once posted a WTB ad for a Headphile Senn cable but it looks like everyone is happy with theirs and not selling. I also recently posted a WTB for a Grado SR-60 and almost immediately got a response. OTOH I have sold quite a few items by responding to WTB ads. So yeah, these WTB ads work.

Cheers!

Yes it works. Sometimes when you search FS posts, you might find that person's thread, or it might be very old and you dont PM them. Also sometimes people are thinking of selling and if they see someone wants to buy it, they sell it

It definately works, at least everytime I've done it.
I always post a "PM all offers" sort of thing, no price range. I feel that people that are hesitant or too lazy to sell are more willing to entertain what offers you may give them.

Not on this forum, I posted a WTB for a Polk Audio LSiC Center Channel Speaker on polkaudio.com forums. I had a barely used speaker in my hands a couple of weeks later. The person who sold it to me was on the fence about selling it before he saw my WTB.

On this forum I sold my HD580s through a WTB posting. The deal with the original WTB poster fell through, but someone else saw the thread and PM'ed me expressing interest in the headphones. I eventually sold them to that person.
