Why? I see this sentiment echoed over and over about how the chinese made AKG must be inferior to products made in europe. I know that facts and scientific studies are frowned upon on head fi, but I think we should agree that something as simple as dismissing a product as of inferior quality solely because of its country of origin is a bit prejudiced.

Again, I don't have a problem with someone choosing to buy a product from a certain country because of other reasons (like ethical concerns such as worker conditions, or wanting to buy products from your own country), but decreeing rather arbitrarily that the physical quality of the product is lower because of its country of origin is not really fair.



Anyway, this is a thread about the HD540 II; I apologize for getting a bit off topic there...

Start reading at post #371. It's not too difficult to do, once you understand what has to be done. BTW, I would advise you to jump on the HD 560 Pads, as those have also been discontinued. Stocks won't last much longer. Thomann, for example, no longer has them!

These are the stock pads which came with my hd540. They are made of some fabric I guess. Not sure about the exact material.

Those original ear pads are the Best for it. The ear pads for the HD 540 II are also very good, possibly even better, at least in terms of comfort. Yours seem to be in quite decent shape. I would advise you to simply enjoy them!

Not meaning to brag, but that pair of HD 540/600 Ohm was sold to the poster by me!

Really simple question. I have the first version HD 540 Reference, with diy plush pads (said to be best Chinese on its way), and I am thinking of cable upgrade over a stock HD600 one. Shall I go copper litz or Acrolink silvered (ebay skyaudio from Britain). Anyone had any experience with them? Btw, my setup is DIY audio PC with PP2 card running HQPlayer, Wyred4Sound USB cable, Resonessence Lab Concero HD, DIY IC, and DIY OTL (Tunsgram military and vintage Mullard tubes). Sound is detailed, textured even, but would need a bit more fluidity. Thx for your input, if any.

Actually, they fit perfectly and are by far my own personal favourite pads for overall sonics and the extraordinary ability for the cans to remove themselves from the path of the music.

I have bought all my HD540/250 cables from this guy - hand made and reasonably priced.(I bought one set for £26 in a sale but you can all way up to £125) The HD600 cables fit but you can PM him with any questions

Thamks for the recommendation. My OTL has a military Tunsgram and a vintage Mullard power tube from the late 1950s. Russian tubes I tried came nowhere close to the subtlety of these.
