4 months of ordering and getting refunds from bad phones and bad shipping and i finally got some headphones here.

so i took the box. and seeing Murphy has been on my ass over headphones .. i didn't get excited . i took them downstairs turned the volume down to lowest.. plugged in my new HD580's (2nd pair i had to order). and plugged em in.. put on a song.. think it was "balls to the wall-accept" and turned it up.

OK! GOOD so far no crackles and sounds Great.. Turned it up a little more.. stopped lol remember I'm paranoid by now after 2 HD555s distorted on me in opposite earphones at 50% vol of which i rma'd.

i went out for a-bit and let them play at 50% vol. just warming em up for the first time they have been played. come back.. 75% vol.. no crackling yet. Ok now I'm actually starting to get a-little excited these things might actually play like i expected for once! 100% i let er go.. this SBXFI shouldn't hurt em ..

and guess what? I FINALLY got a set of phones that work PERFECTLY the way they are supposed to.. no distortions no problems atall actually .. WOOT I'm damn PUMPED..

now i just gotta get this PIMETA amp charging so i can give them the power they need.

Congrats on your purchase. Please post your initial impression.

That'll be great because I intend to purchase Senn headphones in the near future and HD580 caught my attention. Thanks.

initial impressions.. above expectations even just feeding off a Xfi SB card.
clear sound . clean and crisp. and like i said this is so far just off my xfi which is probably holding them back quite a bit..
i have yet to get them onto my amp. but i expect they will be very good off the amp.

You will literally the whole soundstage open up.

I know that my ipod and computer are playing the same files..and one uses a portable amp and the other a reciever ( soon to be a MisterX XP home amp!). The soundstage is completely different.

Great phones. I've had mine for a few weeks and I had no idea until yesterday that you could remove the 1/8" plug to reveal a 1/4" stereo jack.

Don't know how that escaped me.

The HD 580's just about do it all for me. It's gonna be a while before I buy another pair of headphones for listening at home.

Don't you have that backwards?

I've had my 580s for going on 10 years. I guess they're burned-in, huh? I love them. I'm of the camp that believes that "they can't be driven properly without a home amp" is a bit of overstatement. If your source has a good strong op amp in it, the 580s will sound very good. But plug them into an amp with some serious current and headroom and yes, they sound better. Especially in the bass.

Think I'll go listen to them now...
