Should I be willing to spend $100 for the HD-580 to replace the stock cable? Is it not worth it since it's only the HD-580 and not the HD-600?

by all accounts i've read, yes. i have it and love it for the 600 but i've never even heard the 580. i wouldn't doubt a significant improvement with a good signal though.

also, i've only heard the equinox briefly and never the cardas but those seem to be the preferred cables as of late. but i'm still happy with my clou reds.

edit: since they've fallen out of favor you can probably hook up a good deal from those who've upgraded. i just hope you won't have to deal with this.

After listening to the clou red and cardas at the ottawa meet, I can say that if you have a good source and a good amp (not CMOY - at least a Meta42 or MGhead) I would recommend upgrading the cables

if you're like me - listening through the soundcard and my cmoy then you wont notice as much a difference and the 100 would be better spent on a Meta42
