In the UK the D7100 are the same price as the Alpha Dog or AKG K712. My options are buy the D7100 and use my D600 for portable use or buy the M100 again for portability(instead of the D7100)

If the D600 and D7100 are too similar then I may reconsider.

Are you sure? There are people on these forums who say the D7100 actually sounds worse, or marginally better. And I'm inclined to believe them, since 1. they share the same drivers and 2. I wasn't impressed by the D7100 when I demo'ed them.
 
Also, they're basically the same size. It makes no sense to use the D600 as a portable and D7100 for home use, when they weigh and look exactly the same.

Makes perfect sense, the D7100 is more luxurious I.e wood cups etc and cost more. I want to get one more so if I end up getting the D7100 I'll use my D600 as my portable. If they sound too alike to the point they literally can't be told apart then I'll buy the M100 again.

The key is amp. D7100 needs a good amp. It is a perfect headphone at the same level as HD800 and T1. Of course if portable is your objective, D600 is good enough.

That is the very first time I have heard the D7100 being on the same level as the hd800. Different strokes I guess, but honestly at $1000 the D7100 faces some serious competition.

I prefers my Denon D600 to the HD800 but that's because the HD800 where too sterile! If the D7100 are not worth it over the D600 I'll prob def go M100 again.

If you have D600, no point getting D7100. I have D7100, it's great, but only if you buy them at UK price (I got mine for £370). Most reviews I read put D7100 as a minor improvement (if not, identical) over D600, as they apparently have same drivers and only differs from wooden cup.

V-Moda M100 for portable use is for real.
D7100 (I think 600 also) tends to fly away from your head when you biking extensively (or doing other outdoors-activity).

I bought it from this website before Christmas, they had limited number of refurbished/open-box but otherwise brand new for £370. Otherwise they seem to be around £450 in the uk.

oh yeah, definitely. they are quite large. I have average head size, and I have it set up at zero extension on the band, and it is comfortably snuggly but slides off if I lean my head fore/backwards.
