WORST headphone you ever heard?

Oh its this thread again.

The worst headphone I have ever had the displeasure of hearing is the amiron Home. Sure there are worse sounding headphones with muddier bass and more pircing vocals than the amiron home but the presentation of the treble being so spiky make me sick which is a step up form just sounding bad imo.

Senn HD800 - soundstage is not everything...
Pionner Monitor SE-5 - very poor sounding headphones for its price.

Honestly, I think the correct answer to the original question posed should be.... any dollar-store IEM that proudly exclaims "Deep, punchy bass and clear highs!". Most of these are absolute jank. The headphones or earbuds that come packaged with your economy-class flight ticket are bottom-of-the-barrel performers, too. Pure garbage, really.

Of course, if it was so obvious, this thread would be very boring, indeed.

Throughout my time in this hobby, I've had the (dis)pleasure of auditioning a multitude of headphones and IEMs within a wide spectrum of price tiers. In respect to the question at hand, the one that promptly comes to mind is the Sennheiser HD 800 S. From an objective standpoint, it's a great headphone. Subjectively, it is an egregious offender of the highest order - I can't enjoy the HD 800 S for anything more than a minute or two; its signature is the polar opposite of what I love.

This just goes to show just how subjective this hobby really is, huh?

The Amiron Home has a definite spike in the mid-upper treble that you can either handle or you don’t. If you can handle it the headphone is enjoyable. It’s also super system sensitive in regards to that region. It was like it barely existed on the Lyr 3/Bifrost 2 combo but other systems it was like an ice pick in my ears, not as unpleasant as the DT 990’s spike though imho.

That is how I would describe ibuds, I can't believe some people would be satisfied with the tinny sound it ad to vocals, almost smack the friend over the head for lending it to me in the first place for having no taste.

Worst purchase for me would be AKG 317 buds, they sound clinically neutral but totally lack any kind of bass, seriously uncomfortable and would fall out at random and this was the buds I bought for going to the gym with. Second worst purchase AKG k701, coming from from a DT 990 pro, the k701 has even more piercing highs, lacks bass extensions and doesn't go as low in comparrisson, very flimsy build quality too.
Tinny? Ibuds? No to me they’re just hollow mids and bass

Grado Gs1000 i was so bad with stock pads.
Ibasso SR2 was terrible too for the price.
Those two comments really surprise me. With Grado you love 'em or hate 'em, but I am surprised about your SR2 comment. I think that is the first hate I have ever seen for those 'phones. Everyone seems to love them or at least respect them.

Well this is all subjective. They sounded lifeless and muddy to my ears. Such a bad impression considering the price.

For me, the hands down winner is the Audio Technica ATH-WP900. Absolute junk! It took me months to sell them on and even at that I had to take a large loss. And when I did finally sell them the new owner put them up for sale within a week. There is a reason Amazon had them on special! I spoke to a dealer in Vancouver who had a real hard time selling any.

Messy bass with screeching treble and NO mids. By far the biggest mistake in my last 7 years in Headphone World.

fostex t50rp mk3. bought with intention to send it to modhouse. tested out because modhouse wasnt taking in new phones. they sounded broken to me distorted bloated piercing. i did the cotton and tape mods and then i got it and fell in love with the fostex sound. ended up with the x00 ebonys, though.
