My wife and I just returned from Maui and although we stayed with family there we did check out the Grand Wailea Resort Hotel & Spa in Wailea which is the most beautiful hotel and resort property I have ever personally toured. We will with out a doubt pay the high price to spend at least a few nights there next time. Here are some pics (which do not do it any justice) but gives you an idea.

It depends what you define as 'best'...

...Being in the industry, I get a fair amount of inside information on this kind of thing, there is a hotel in Paris (the name eludes me right now) that has rooms at about £6,000 / $10,000 per night...

...The best hotel I've personally stayed in is the Ritz Carlton Pentagon City at about $500 per night... Its also got a great little Irish bar about a five minute walk away, well recommended

I stayed at the Tokyu Imaihama Resort when me and my family went to Japan last October and it was amazing, the ocean, the ambiance, and the Onsen! I'll post some pics when I get home.

Wow, $495.00/night, Hawaii sure is expensive. Bali got lots of world class hotel and price is much less expensive. The trade off IMO are the airfare and recent security concerns. It's a shame what the terrorist have done to that beautiful island.

That's pretty reasonable for such a nice resort, the Sheraton Moana Surfrider we stayed at was about $570 a night and it's nowhere near as big, only stayed there once though, slept over for the Macfarlane Reggata the next morning, definitely worth the price, it's a one of a kind hotel.
