I have been doing an extensive write up which I plan to share with Head-fi in the coming months. The Writeup is huge though and since I'm really putting effort into it, I want to make sure that I review as many top quality headphones as possible
The Headphones which have been involved in the comparison are as follows:
SONY MDR R10 (Bass Heavy version #1125) (balanced with stock cable)
SENNHESIER HD800 (balanced with APureSound V3)
SENNHEISER HD650 (balanced with Moon Audio Silver Dragon)
SENNHEISER HD600 (balanced with Moon Audio Silver Dragon)
HIFIMAN HE-5 (balanced with APureSound V3)
ULTRASONE EDITION 8 (Stock Cable Single ended)
SONY SA5000 (Stock Cable Single Ended...considering going balanced)
ULTIMATE EARS UE10 (stock cable single ended)
WESTONE 3 (stock cable single ended)
SENNHEISER IE8 (Stock cable singled ended)
Other headphones I own which I am not testing alongside these simply because I know they are not on the same level:
Other headphones I would like to add to the lineup.....if anyone reading this lives in or around NYC and would like to come over to my place we can schedule a time for you to come over to my place if you like
I would like to add:
BEYERDYNAMIC T1
AKG K1000
DENON D7000
GRADO PS1000
GRADO RS1
Other headphones I have owned which I have since parted with:
Sony MDR R10 (bass light version....regret selling it but needed the cash)
Beyerdynamic DT880
Beyerdynamic DT990
Ultrasone Proline 750
Ultrasone Proline 650
Denon D5000
Sennheiser HD25
Sennheiser HD595
AKG K701
Audio Technica W5000
Grado SR60
I might take you up on the offer, I can sure use a drive down to NYC at some point. I have a Grado PS-1 (balanced), AKG K1000, Sony CD3000, a non-balanced R10, and the Buffalo 32s that I use with my 307A.
I'm looking forward to the review, it'll be very interesting. I've found that, over a lot of time I've come to answer for myself many questions about my own positive and negative impressions of headphones, with help from other reviews sometimes. It has now become easier to get my head around what is going on with a pair when I hear some aspect of their presentation that has a particular effect, such as making me like or dislike them, either overall or with certain types of music. It's fascinating to hear the effect switching between different pairs of headphones and listening to the same music, especially after one's brain has adapted to the sound.
