I've been in communication with Jack in regards to his building an amp for my k701 cans. His respose to my asking him to compare a maxxed out WA6 to a stock 6SE was, "The WA6SE is a much superior model than the WA6. Any upgraded parts used on the WA6 would not bring it close to a stock 6SE. However, some users like a smaller amp so the WA6 is a very good choice."

I was surprised to hear that there was still such a difference. Looks like I'll be going with the SE with a Princess.

I would take that with a grain of salt.

After all, he's running a business... what did you expect him to say?

"No, the WA6SE is not much better than the WA6, please save your money."

Although the WA6SE may be better, who's to say you won't be satisfied with a WA6? Your wallet would certainly be happier.

I agree with Jack. WA6SE has so much power reserve. WA6 isn't bad at all, IMO the SE is just superior in every way.

WA6 with premium parts is basically the same cost as a stock WA6SE, so he's not actually going to gain anything by vouching for one over the other. The thing with the 6SE is that, for one the power supply is seperate, always a good thing for completely removing toroid EMI, and secondly the power output is through the roof compared to the WA6.

Its debatable whether the power of the 6SE is even needed for the majority of cans, but I like knowing there's a huge amount of headroom in there anyway.

Hmm, I was under the impression that he doesn't offer the premium parts upgrade anymore.

That is my point. Even with the WA6, I feel it's got more than enough power for my HD600. Without knowing more information from the OP, it's hard to say if the WA6SE is overkill. But if money isn't an issue, then by all means, go with the WA6SE.

Ordered the 6SE with the EML 274B Mesh. I'm stoked.

BTW...I'm a newbie to this forum. Why not-so-much vinyl talk?

Welcome to head-fi, sorry about your wallet

RE: Vinyl, personally I just can't give up the convenience of computer as source. I'm sure vinyl sounds fantastic, but yeah. Too impractical for me.

Yeah, the speed from $300 to $1,300 was pretty remarkable. Thanks, guys.

BTW...the "inconvenience" of vinyl is half the charm (don't get me started on wood-glue). After just a couple of days here, I am staring to see a similarity with tube rolling...

God save me.

Welcome to the club! By the way, what headphones are you planning to use with the 6SE?

My k701's are about 100 hours into break-in.

BTW...can anyone tell me how long the tether between the two components on the 6SE is?

The upgrades for the standard 6 have been removed from Woo's website a while back. Maybe he still does them by request?

I did an A/B comparison with the Woo 6 and the Woo 6 SE and the difference was big. The 6SE easily was fuller and better sounding than the Woo 6. Will the maxx Woo 6 close the gap? That I don't know but the 6 SE has a big power supply. IMO, power supply is one of the most important things in an amp and can make a huge difference.

That being said, if people already have the Woo 6, it's still a good amp filled with pleasure.

Has anyone compared a standard 6 with the pseudo PS mod to a stock SE?

^ I had a WA6 w/ PDPS, parts upgrade & SP 274B, a stock SE with stock tubes is still better, much better.
