Man, I never imagined that my thread titled "The Cable Factor" (http://www.head-fi.org/forums/showth...threadid=12456) would explode like that. Kinda shows you what can happen when you take a one weak vacation from the forums....

Anyway, after that thread, I think that there is some stuff that needs clearing up:

1. Practically everyone, even anti-cable people, agree that standard stock cables are horrid. The real argument is whether something will sound better using $500-$2000 cable rather than $20 Radio Shack Gold Series type cable. I think even people like Ricky will agree that stock is pretty bad. A good metaphor would be how Republicans are ragged on for believing in no taxes. That is not the case, even Republicans believe there is a need for taxes, just like Democrats. It is how much which is really the question.

2. Practically everyone agrees that in someway cables DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!. The real question is wheater or not it alters it positively or negatively. It is possible that expensive cables distort the sound, much like tube amps, but in distorting it make it sound better. I, for one, question cables which are not bidirectional. An audio signal should not care which side of the cable is in the amp and which is in the source do to the nature of its signal. Because many expensive cables tell you which side to plug into the source and which side to plug in to the amp, I believe this may be the case.

The definition of better sound is in question.

3. Psychology is powerful. Just look at Bose.

So, really, much like republicans and democrats, anti-cablites and pro-cablites have more in common than you would imagine.

I'm not going to touch.
