This is very funny and I think appropriate for this forum.

would the volume and scroll function of the click wheel still function properly with wood in the way? Although i don't know how it works, I assumed it worked by heat from your finger. Can someone enlighten me

is that not a first gen Ipod? didn't the wheels on those actually rotate? if so, it's just a bit of wood veneer. nothing too advanced.

I think first gen had a scroll wheel (not a click wheel) with the four buttons on top. But same technology, as far as I know.

The first generation did not have the four buttons...that was generation 2

Yep, my mistake. I completely blocked that one out of my mind! Was it 2g or 3g?

Regardless, the woodied one looks like a click wheel, which would make it 4g? And only the 1st gen had the non-touch wheel, I guess.

In the description of how he did it, he says it's a 20GB 4G monochromatic iPod. The covering for the click wheel and center button is African Padauk veneer. The faceplate is made of solid African Padauk (not veneer) complete with the mounting tabs and lexan polycarbonate screen protection. I'm impressed.

As to the buttons above the clickwheel, I know 3rd gen has them. I think 2nd also, but I'm not sure....

the 3g had four buttons along the top, not 2g or 1g. 2g had buttons around the click wheel, 4g and onwards had them integrated into the click wheel

Every bit as interesting is the job he also did on what looks to be a MS Explorere Trackball with its' compound curves in the complete desktop pic. ........................you'd have to call this a generational updating of the old ship-in-a-bottle hobby/craft.
