Hello all,

I've been tinkering with my headphone setup a bit lately and today, decided to purchase an ifi ipurifier3 (purely based on what I've read about it and other users experiences). I've only really been doing an a-b test for the past two hours, but I'm unsure as to whether I really need or want it, due to the effect I've noticed it has on my top end. Vocals also feel like they lose their intimacy and kinda blend in with the background.

For perspective, most of my high res files are 16/44, 24/96 and 24/192 running through Jriver MC on a Surface Book 2. From there, its a Furutech GT2Pro to my Woo Wa7 + Wa7tp with EH gold pins and Mullard CV4003. Ive made all my own cables with cryo treated copper mains and litz type2 for the headphones, direct soldered to the voice coils withg Cardas Eutectic. All connectors are Furutech carbon/rhodium and headphones are a pair of HD800s (with alot of sorbothane).

The system sounds absolutely beautiful, particularly after installing the mullards a couple of weeks ago. If anything, I feel I'm tweaking this setup to the point of "cant do any more, sell in a couple of years to upgrade", but meandering into items like the ipurifier3 for the sake of seeing how it performs.

Are there any others who can offer their own opinion of the ipurifier3 and whether it would be needed for an amp like WA7? The amp has a virtually silent noise floor, so Im wondering if an ipurifier could be detrimental in specific setups.

it is not necessary. I recommend applying the funds towards a Nordost Blue Heaven USB cable instead. In my listening tests, Nordost makes a great sonic upgrade.

Don‘t get another brand’s USB cable. Nordost is spendy but it’s the real deal. I am using the Nordost Frey2 USB cable.

Im using a 3.6m Furutech GT2Pro cable (silver alloy, purple) which I recently purchased from someone who bought the incorrect length. Im assuming its not necessary bc the WA7 cleaning up the signal before going to the DAC?

Our iPurifier3 sorts USB data before it goes to your WA7, so the odds are you might hear audible improvement

Mike can I ask, is the WA7s DAC native sample rate 24/384 and upsamples any signal it receives via usb? I've "set all to 384kHz" in jriver MC but unsure if I should leave each at their respective resolution to avoid software upsamplng before the DAC

Also, is it advisable to only use the pot on the WA7 to adjust volume, in terms of having a detrimental impact on the tubes? I have a surface dial which can act as a nice wireless pot for convenieniently adjusting the WA7 volume, but is only practical if i keep the WA7 pot at full or 3/4.

I appreciate your help. Honestly, words can't describe how happy I am with my current woo set-up. I mean, at least until the day comes when i own a WA-33

have very loud white noise when connecting Hugo2 to macbook via micro usb cable, but no issue when connecting from my iphone to H2 via apple dongle..

previously used Qutest and also connected to macbook via usb but had no interference etc. (is it cos qutest has galvanic isolation?)

Your Mac seems to add something along with data sent to your DAC. If it's only interfering constant noise, iSilencer might reduce it. If it's a ground loop, iDefender will break it.

That's where I would start, yes. Our return policy is generous, so if our product doesn't do for you what you need, a refund shouldn't be any issue. I'd contact your local iFi representative and ask.

Haha where I am return policies don’t actually exist apart from on paper, that’s partially how they convince foreign brands to allow for distribution

Have you tried powering it from a separate/different outlet? If this doesn't help, you might want to take a look at our Groundhog and AC iPurifier.
