i recently bought a Cowon D2 to retire my aging Sony NW-HD5,

the casing did have some bumps, and it was showing its age a bit with some noise and hanging once in a while, plus the lack of EQ for MP3 and having atrac as only "high quality" format made it a bit troublesome to use,

now, a few months afterwards, im starting to have my doubts, maybe all the NW-HD needed was a nice cleaning, new battery and a drive format,

maybe invest in a larget 1.8" drive to shove inside,

i use to think cowon were the best sound quality players on the market, but as i said, im having second thoughts,

well, i´ve been comparing them for a moment now, the NW-HD5 sounds more detailed, but theres some strage veil with my Mylarone X3´s, its driving me a bit insane

played with the EQ, and now im crying, close to $300 to get my 4gb D2 with its 8GB SDHC card, and the case,
tried some nilsen, tried some clapton, tried some chemical romance,

the sony is slighty superior to the cowon, and i suspect that if i had a pair of ety´s or UE´s. the sony would wipe the floor with the cowon,

like garth brooks said, no way over it, no way around it,

i guess its time to shop for a new harddrive and battery for the sony,

I am abandoning team cowon, i have reached the conclusion that the cowon sound is artificial and anti natural, im seriously thinking about repairing my NW-HD5 and then selling my Cowon D2

sorry to hear you regret your decision so much. there are quite a few people that also feel the same way you do, that the D2 is artificial and very synthesized sounding. the d2, strangely, sounds very different than the X5 did when I had that, the x5 sounding much better.
