With the death of LG Mobile on the horizon, what phone will you move to next?

The writing is on the wall for LG. There was news earlier this year LG wanted out of the mobile business. Recently, that news has been ramping up and now there is even a Vietnamese company on the fishing line for buyout. Add that to the fact that LG is NOT releasing a V70.. it's not pretty.

Even if LG mobile doesn't die out immediately, with the aforementioned rumors, I can't trust buying any future products even if they do end up coming out with an LG G9.

I'm not sure where to move. Samsung has no headphones jacks, so where does that leave us? Sony Xperia?

I'm not sure what do do either. LG had quality DAC's in their phones. I hate to see Samsung and others following Apple in removing headphone jacks. Apple says this was "courage". It was shafting the sheep who buy their stuff, and cutting costs of manufacture. They haven't ever cared about audio quality in anything, from distribution of only lossy music files to mass market hardware at premium prices.

I'm not sure if any other phone is going to have audio quality from the jack that's good enough to justify buying a gimped phone. I have the Pixel 4a at the moment because the phone suits me but the headphone jack is pretty crap. We'll probably just have to accept that there's a USB-C Dongle in our futures and buy the phone that suits us.

Gonna hold on to my V60 as long as I can 😋

I have some hopes in Sony, having reintroduced the headphone jack as of late. But their smartphone business doesn't care for the US much :frowning2:

It says "aside from traditional headphone jack it has an ESS Sabre Quad DAC and high output amplifier"

Honestly, I just use a dap. Way higher SQ than a phone anyways, even one with good chip

On Asus Rog Phone 5, Phone Arena says Asus told them it will be using ESS Sabre ES9280AC Pro. Sorry no MQA on this version. Its brother ES9281AC Pro has it though (only difference).

Would this be an upgrade from the chip in the V60?

ASUS ROG PHONE 5 HAS COME TO SET US FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
18G of RAM. A phone that will eventually crush all laptops and chromebooks before they are even born :D

I am more worried about the "no SD card slot" on newer phones guys, compared to the loss of headphone jack. OnePlus Nord, the ASUS above, Pixel 4A, Iphone's for example are all nosdcardsloters.

No shortage of models from Sony, Samsung, Motorola, Xiaomi with SD card slot right now, but who knows in future.....

Chances are you will mostly try use such phone as transport for external DAC and having non-expandable memory is not good. 1 DSD album is 5-6GB. Even 256 or 512GB are not enough most of the time (for this and lossless library).

I'm currently using the Vivo X50 Pro. No headphone jack but the sound coming from the usb adapter is good! It's using the AK4377A dac inside the phone which I assume is somewhat similar to the Fiio M5.

It plays pretty good on my Moondrop Starfield but I don't think it'll work with headphones. Two caveats I can think off unfortunately is that, by using the usb adapter, you won't be playing any DSD files natively and will just decode it to PCM. Lastly, the UAPP app doesn't work well with Vivo phones, so I just used the Fiio app and it sounded great there. It still sounds good with the price when I bought it last year. (About 699USD)

What it is doing ?

I mean, you could try to contact UAPP developer if there is problem on your phone. Though i don't see this model in their 'supported devices list', you could try. Paid for the program, might as well check on that. It is better than the Fiio player. Meybe changing some settings will be enough as this phone has internal DAC AK.

For the topic guys (meybe someone will read later in this forum), Razer Phone 2 has a good DAC/amp. I am not sure if they still selling it, but if you can find it used and change the battery, is great for audio. Has SD card slot. The amp works only with usb 3, so no headphone jack. Fast CPU and Ram plenty. Display is 60-90-120HZ.
