It's like a thin veil is lifted off IE8's sound, I didn't even notice the veil until I destroyed the mesh,
and the improvements are quite noticeable, better details and treble, faster attack time, etc.

Try it... if you dare risking your warranty

I was wondering when someone would get around to prising that little mesh sound blocker off. I was tempted myself. It's like taking the covers off your speakers, brightens up the sound a treat...

Yep, the last bit of juice I can squeeze out of these phones.
Or I could tinker with the dial, see what it sounds like when it's completely off or with a different material blocking the hole. Musn't go frankenstein... must not...

How did you take off the mesh?

I don't want to void my warranty haha

A tiny flat head screwdriver, but a small but extremely sharp cutting tool would be better.

Does it just pop out? Can you put it back in? I'm curious to see how the IE8's will sound like without the mesh.

You have to destroy a portion of the meshes to lift/lever them out (they sort of pop out),
and from what I saw you can't just put them back, you'll need to glue them.

Aww that sucks, If I had the money for a second pair of IE8's I would definitely try this out. I can't risk it haha. What if something goes into the nozzle... and void warranty is no good either....

Personally, I wouldn't take off the mesh. Besides it actually keeping earwax getting in the housing (I am on of those unfortunate individuals with ears producing alot of wax), I keep the IE8s in my pocket and, upon taking them out, sometimes have to remove lint and tobacco scraps that get in the tips.

Never put IE8 in my pocket before (maybe once or twice in a shirt pocket), but with what I'm
wearing now I doubt earwax can go against gravity and float into the housing

Besides, it's quite easy to take all the tips off, tape off the nozzle, and put it in the bling-bling
Senn case.

I can see why this is easy for you!

I guess one can always use some very thin material to cover the nozzle, ie pantyhose cloth similar to what some people do for their HD6x0s if they're worried about exposed drivers.

mmmm....pantyhose and IEM's in the same sentence. Golly, Head Fi can be fun sometimes (down, boy...)
