Has anyone tried to install this?
Its big (full download is over 130 Megs!)
It has all the current updates plus other things like USB2.0 support.

It will also prevent all of those who have an "evaluation version" from installing the update.

(If you are one of those "evaluators" and still want to install SP1, there is a way...

)

Yes, I've installed it. What really sucks is that the servers seem very slow, so even though I normally get high download rates from other places (170-300KB/sec) all I managed to get on the download was a measaly 10-30KB/sec.

If you search with google for things like "XP service pack activation key" you will find all kinds of ways. Microsoft has seen to it that many of these descriptions have been removed, but they forgot that google has a cache

I've been happily using the "evaluation" corporate edition for ages. I have an original XP Pro CD in my drawer, and I paid $300 for it - but I'm not interested in taking part in their stupid activation scheme. This must be one of the dumbest things they have ever done. Gain a few dollars from newly purchased copies, annoy millions into finding another way around the measure and maybe even get them annoyed enough to go buy a Mac! My SP install has just finished, I hope it fixes the jerky mouse pointer problem that has never been addressed.

I have done the exact same thing.

I got a free copy from Microsoft for being a beta tester.
I still haven't installed it due to the activation "feature".
(and yes, a good search will give you all the answers you need)

I have legal copies of all MS opp. systems installed on my computers over time(95,98 & ME) and I work on a legally bought Office 2000 - none of them registered with Microsoft because of fear of Privacy Invasion...I actually passed out on their support...
Now I'm going to buy a new system and FOR THE FIRST TIME I'm considering between buying a legal copy of Win2k PRO or putting in a pirated version of WinXP PRO ... As the things look now,even with Win2k-SP3 I will have a damn hard time keeping them out of my computer...
There is no way on earth I will give them my computer details from my free will and there is no way I agree they change anything in my computer without my specific consent. So what are my choices now? I cannot legally get their operating system and updates without surrendering my legitimate privacy rights...
