Windows Speaker Selection in XP

Do you select headphones or do you use the 2.1 setting? Headphones would seem like the obvious choice but I have a feeling it would only degrade the sound quality.

I normally select 2.1 because I think headphone puts all these weird things that are meant to enhance headphone audio... Something that I don't really need.

Try to use ASIO if you have a compatible sound card, or KX Mixer for older Creative models without ASIO. The sound is much better when Windows is not in charge anymore.
