Windows Audio Seems to "Pulse"

When I listen to audio on any windows software, it feels like the audio pulses.  The effect is exaggerated if the playback sample rate is not the same as the source material.  It makes me feel a bit light-headed.
 
Anyone else experience this?

Ok, after some experimentation, I've found that windows has 2 output devices on my computer.  Speakers  and headphone.  I had only set the headphone output to match the source sample rate.  I set them both to 44.1 and now the "pulsing" seems to have gone poof.
 
Weird.
