OK, I've got my D22's, and despite my minor problem with how comfortable they are, they'll do as a good set of headphones, and I might get used to them.

Now I'm looking for some more earphones.

I'm considering the 888LP's, EX70LP's and EX71SL's

The reason I've included the EX71LP's is because I've heard they're louder than the EX71's and also I had a crackling problem with my EX71's and my friend has a 2mW N10 too and doesn't complain about his EX70's.

My main priority is loudness with my N10, bearing in mind it's 2mW, I didn't get enough volume with the EX71's. The 888LP's are rated at 108db as opposed to the EX's which are both 100db, I'm guessing this means the 888's will be louder? The only problem is I've read reviews on the 888's having NO bass at ALL and clipping quite bad.

What do you suggest?

The EX71's are rated at 100dB/mW. If you can't get them loud enough driving them with 2 mW, you're listening way too loud. Be careful, listening at those levels will (not maybe) cause permanent hearing damage.

Seriously they're not loud enough at all, even on full volume they're less than "normal listening volume" on my dads R500.
Will the 888's be louder, and what about the issue with clipping, crackling, etc.

If it helps the D22's are perfect volume...

I also like the sound of the D22's, which are more similar, 888's or 70/71?

Thanks again.

To be honest with you, don't go with any of the Sony EX earbuds. They are crap. I have the EX71 and it's my most disappointing headphone. It's sitting in its bag collecting dust. Sure, it has bass (and not the good kind of bass), but other than that, its sound quality is worse than my original Gameboy stock earbuds. In fact, the sound is SO BAD that I would advise EVERYONE to stay away from them. They really are that bad.

As for the E888, sure, it has less bass, but the clarity and detail are simply the best for earbuds. It is very easy for portables to drive too since I keep the volume very low on my MP3 player and I can hear it just fine. You mentioned that there's clipping? I've never noticed any clipping whatsoever. These earbuds are extremely recommended if my opinion is worth anything at all. If you can find the gold version, try to get them. Supposedly, the gold ones are better than the silver/chrome one. In fact, I'm waiting for the gold ones to arrive in about a week's time, and then I'll be able to tell for sure. I'm buying the gold ones from www.bluetin.com, if you're interested.

I used to think that I'm a basshead too. My computer speakers are the Klipsch Promedia 2.1. Before I got into headphones, I was quite pleased at the bass that these speakers produced. Now my speakers are collecting dust because most of my headphones are better, including the E888.

I've ordered the 888's but in silver because I think they looked better, surely gold wouldn't be any different? It doesn't mention this anywhere and the model names are identical.

True that it's not mentioned anywhere, but if you do a search in the forum here, you'll see several people mentioning that the gold ones have a slightly better sound (and even a bit more bass) than the silver ones.

The gold ones are actually discontinued for some reason. Maybe Sony decided to discontinue them because they didn't look as good? I really don't know why.

Maybe you can hold off on getting the E888 for now (cancel the order if they allow you). I'll be receiving them in a week or so, and after several days of burn in, I'll compare the two versions side-by-side and see if I can notice a difference. Meanwhile, you can do more research on Head-Fi. There's always something interesting to read here.

Nah I'm not too fussed, I could have got the gold ones for the same price but I chose chrome because it looks way better and I figured if I'm gonna spend this much I may aswell get a decent colour.
