Yes, of course. the E9 is an amp and doesn’t care. (The docked E7 dac also works fine with the Mac)

It works with my iMac (both of them).
It most certainly won't with yours though - because you are cursed.
Dacs don't use firmware - pretty much any DAC should work with any Mac.
